   About The Bee's Niece
.. .. ..The Bee's Niece.. .. .. You know, it's the same old story really..
Ragnhild met herself in the door one day, the rest of us met while we all studied nuclear science at some posh university
No, really we met at a cafe in Manchester
No it was at university
No, it was at a gig somewhere.. or maybe a festival?
Actually it's quite sad, we met online..
Wasn't it at a drawing class?
I think it was while we were out in the park photographing the sunset
To tell you the truth, we met during the war..
No, no, it's just cause our parents know each other.
Our cats know each other.. and now we do too!
And I think we're quite happy about that?

I am anyway..

Or if you want the real story..
We studies together. Popular music and recording at University of Salford. A great course which of course gave us all the brilliant jobs we always wanted. Now everything is joyeux and the wealth is overflowing, but that wasn't enought for us, no. We felt an urge to throw all that away to get crap jobs and play music and be miserable and complain about the world. But at least the music gives us some kind of joy when we don't have to deal with incompetent promoters or the overall lack of success. Oh well, we could of course chosen the straight and narrow and become doctors and history teachers and repair televisions, but that seemed to easy.

The Bee's Niece on BBC introducing, go and have a looksee:

Read article here
"The Bee's Niece sound does have a childlike naivety, but a closer listen reveals an attractive humour that gives them a charming freshness. Ragnhild’s voice is beautifully tender, while the backing of Hayley’s often off-kilter responses makes for something brilliantly unique. (...) for those willing to contemplate songs about cats and snow and love, there are treats in store."
Chris Long

"Norwegian born Ragnhild Zeigler fronts this delightful group. Though many of the instruments are quite traditional, there is also a place for saw-playing and wine glasses, which is only the start of their quirkiness. The music is acoustic but edges into the experimental. Ragnhild's lyrics are perhaps the most striking part of the songs, often cute little stories, and sometimes almost like a diary or a conversation."
Women's Listings, Canal Street

The Bee’s Niece - a name warning you to expect super tweeness - added some adventure to their sleepy folk songs about cats and lost bikes with slide guitar and sweet notes coaxed out of a musical saw. The song Snow was aglow with hushed beauty, wine glasses with their rims rubbed in a circular fashion, amplified by a microphone, adding an unexpected coating of warm fuzziness. Singer Ragnhild’s beguiling Norwegian accent meant they managed to keep things just the right side of cute.

Hey! Happy summer to you too! That's the most flattering thing about someone buying you a drink for sharing the stage! if everyone would do that it'd be a very silly and drunken world.

Hi Ragnhild,

I would like to share some exciting news: after a long application process, the NYC Musical Saw Festival was approved
by the Guinness Book of Records to attempt to break the current world record for the 'Largest Musical Saw Ensemble'.
The current world record (set in Poland last year) is 27 musical saw players playing together.
Could we set a new world record on July 18th? We need your help for it!
Please join us and be part of a Guinness World Record breaking attempt at the 7th annual NYC Musical Saw Festival:
When: Saturday, July 18th, 2pm
Where: Trinity Church, 37th street corner of 31st Avenue, Astoria (Queens), NYC.
Admission: $10
Info: www.MusicalSawFestival.org

For the Guinness World Record attempt all sawists will be playing 2 pieces together (in what we call the 'Chorus of the Saws'):
Ave Maria/Schubert - accompanied by church organ
Over the Rainbow - accompanied by piano
The 'Chorus of the Saws' will be conducted by Scott Munson.

Hope to see you there, and please - pass the info on - we need to get as many musical saw players to participate as possible to set a new Guinness World Record!

All the best,

Natalia
