   About the beige

the beige's music is atmospheric, understated, wry and jazzy with off-kilter pop leanings, but sometimes not. the quintet's live shows feature broad strokes of improvisation. the beige complement most interiors.

stuff written about the debut cd "01":

"The Beige's wonderfully designed CD is home to a collection of textured, rootsy folk-pop music heavy on the ambient atmosphere...a brilliant level of depth to the recording...Ladies and gents, meet your new favourite atmospheric roots-pop band." -- Indieville.com

"A record that fuses popular and experimental forms into a coherent whole is a rare thing, and this is a record of rare beauty." -- Americana UK

"The Beige is a new musical force in Vancouver" -- Marke Andrews, Vancouver Sun.

"A gorgeously spacious thing.... as melodic and lyrically striking as Wilco at its most incisive--and more overtly catchy." -- Ken Eisner, The Georgia Straight.

"Let’s not try too hard to categorize the Beige. We’ll just say that Maddocks writes damn good songs that allow the band to take all sorts of twists and turns through interesting corners of the sonic spectrum." --Eden Munro, Vue Weekly

"The result is a disc of literate roots-pop for urban dwellers, with a we-get-there-when-we-do attitude that coalesces into dusty, lovely ballads." -- Shawn Conner, Vancouver Courier.

"the beige have managed to work their mellowing magic on me. I'm finding it very difficult to shit all over them." -- the Nerve

yours is the first record i scroll to on my ipod when i need something mellow, catchy, relaxing and sing-along-able. i think if i ever get married i'd want "one for me" to be the song of my first dance.

I had to drop by again and have a listen to 'one for me'. It's one of those songs that's just right.

But now I'm going to get back to hiphop and DJs before I wake up in a non-descript cardigan and a half emptied bottle of scotch. haha :)

Hi Rick, It was great to see you on Sunday. Listening to "one for me" reminds me of the campfire at Uncle Addie's cabin. You've got a great voice, and, as Henry mentioned before, "a good face". -Alan

Your space centre show was fantastic. I didn't want it to end. Staring up at those stars, letting your lovely layered songs wash over me.

How could you play in the dark? Because you're all so damn talented, that's how.

Carla.
