MOST OF THIS WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE IF NOT FOR THE UNDYING SUPPORT AND LOVE OF MY AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL AND SUPPORTIVE GIRLFRIEND. I LOVE YOU IN THIS LIFE AND IN THE OTHERS TO COME.
Influences
Neo-Marxist and post-modern history, plus the likes of Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, The Postal Service (+DCFC), Arcade Fire, Neil Young, The RZA, Sublime, The Marley Family, early Metallica, Beck, Wilco, Art Tatum and The Beatles, amongst numerous others I can not think of.
Sounds Like
"...a swirly Beck...," and, ".. the voice has a Ben Gibbard quality to it..," plus, "...gorgeous..," "..clever songwriting...," "..great lyrics..haunting melodies.."..."intelligent and sensitive songs with cool, beautiful sounds..." also, "work of genius..." with.."nothing short of fantastic.." and, "made me feel delighted."
Dustin found out early that music lessons required sitting still for long periods of time. His virulent hyperactivity proved to be a formidable obstacle to chromatic scales and proper finger placement. Strategically placed within the distractions of divorce and mired between the tenets of teen-angst, however, were early Casio synthesizers and ancient out-of-tune theatre pianos. By ear, he would carve out skeletal semblances of popular music and flirt with his own would-be melodies until they dissolved into the unfinished detritus of his own impatience.
Then Radiohead happened. Fueled by the emotional reliability of their acclaimed music and troubled by the irksome companionship of his own complacency, Dustin set out to cultivate his own musical landscape while studying history and education. Guzzling down unearthly amounts of caffeine, disrupting adjacent classrooms and hiding overnight in the Fine Arts practice room, he would assault the university’s baby grand piano like an anxious soldier. With incredibly incessant practice he began to view the keyboard as his own child, governing each key in a fatherly manner; affording affection for each chord. Re-evaluating the cacophony of sounds and emotions from his own life and utilizing the revealing nature of historical study he began to write his songs. Helping bridge the gap between mere idea and human agency he now operates his own musical project called, “The Belief-Action Nexus.”
From the addicting and electrifying trajectory of “Boundaries” to the undulating and organic sounds of “Glucose,” Dustin has captured a wealth of intellect, emotion and raw rhythm on his self-produced and self-released debut album, “Beyond The Effective Range of Speech.” Utilizing an array of electronic and acoustic equipment, Dustin strives to compose and create sounds that both capture the essence of our human experience and accurately reflect his indelible belief in the power of music.
