The Bent Gents have docked in San Antonio Tx. Though fresh faces to the SA music circuit,The Bent Gents are no babes (in the woods that is ) to true sounds and musical comradery. The rough seas in San Antonio have landed them on the same shores,or stages as you landlubbers like to call them, as LA's Flogging Molly,Europe's The Adicts & The Exploited ,And bands with members of The Adolescents.
"The Captain" Paul's vocals leave you with a thirst for more of his "Swilling Songs" and a pint with a rum chaser. He has harbored a passion for the sea and it's music since he was but a wee mud skipper and attributes his lyrics and influences to the late, great Joe Stummer and The Clash with thier pioneering punk sounds.Much of his stage presence comes from an envious Appreciation of such Moguls as the Pogues,Adam Ant,Iggy Pop, and The Wierdos. His Genuine Performance (if you can call it that) is uncommonly the True Actions,Reactions, and Attractions of the Piratic purveyor of sound.
"Skillet" literally picked up his wench of a guitar, and joined the rest of the crew for thier voyage and then became the master of his stringed maiden, just as one of his all time heroes,Mike Ness of Social Distortion, did.Although there are brief tangents of european punk.Skillet's gut chords are 100% American, early 80's punk rock influence like The Ramones,Black Flag, and the Misfits.Skillet's contributions also lie in the lyrics and back up vocal departments, which beats the bellowing of a whale any day.
"Pill" Although being the more strong ,silent type in the band, has often been found emitting bass lines that are,to put it Mildly,Heart Thumping,Teeth Chattering,Tingling Sensations that move through the body and mind,Straight to your soul. His Angst comes from the sounds of The Ramones,as does Skillet and Roach, but Pill finds his own method from more obscure Instrumental bands such as The Minutemen,Scratch Acid, and Sa's own Butthole Surfers. This wide ranged conglomeration of sounds give The Bent Gents the back bone that is an integral key to thier success.
"Roacha" being the only Veteran to the music scene, brings to the Bent Gents a truly "old school" rhythm that is Guaranteed to get your blood boiling.Rene, the Roach, has beat his skins long enough to know what he wants to produce with the group and achieves it consistently. His major influences like NOFX,The Reverend Horton Heat, and Dead Kennedys are unmistakably apparent in his music.Rene is by all means a native to rebel sounds.
This Roguish band of Swashbuckling musicians will leave a salty taste in your mouth,an eyeful of originality, and a full belly of entertainment that is unmistakably THE BENT GENTS.........
Cheers! Prost! Slainte! Salud!
