The Benvereens are purveyors of crafty pop songs whittled down from soot-darkened twisted urban tree branches in a ravine hammock not very far away from the old Black Creek. Songs about Smoke Machines and Pre-Birth Dreams, Runaway Dogs and Cabins and Logs. Songs that Pan For Gold and songs that Never Get Old. These songs are the story and the story is in the songs. The band is all 'hang back in the shadows humility' creating space so that the songs can stand in the limelight and sing for themselves.
Long suffering players wizened from years spent on the snow blown Monday night Bathurst Street bar scene, reunited out of mutual love and admiration for all that is good and right in the small town haunts of structure, melody and harmony. Disciples of the Jayhawks, admirers of Ray LaMontagne and contemporaries of Ron Hawkins, The Benvereens are friends from the first. Always together when they are alone. Three soul searching, soft hearted, singular spirits playing painfully honest hooky in the shadows of their hand-me-down heroes. Smoking behind the school, drinking before the dance and throwing footballs in sleepy Sunday afternoon streets filled with wet leaves and warm smoke from red brick wood burning chimneys.
Like the cottage lake in summertime, like the Leafs when they win, like midnight with your headphones, like giving up on not giving up but still not giving up at all, like The Benvereens.

Hi Benvereens! thanks so much for adding us. we definitely feel less UnLOVED as bikes having you as our friends. and in a world much cooler than ours "I'll be Good" would be all over the radio (but i would still be driving my Lada as i heard it...bikes drive cars or go on racks or something) beautiful, gorgeous song that one. love it.
bike B (and bike A is just stupid as you can tell from our picture so don't worry none about bike A)
Hi Dee, Vince, great to seeya here and hear new sounds. I listen to "Haunted" all the time, and "On the Bus" is on my Ipod's Top 25. Looking forward to spinning the new songs! Cheers, KQ
Hi Benvereens, just wanted to say thanks so much for adding us. we're most proud to have the Benvereens on our friends list, and more importantly to help keep these nervous nellies safe in the cyber highschool myspace hallways. and we appreciate you never and i mean ever stealing our dunkeroos in the myspace cyber cafeteria...some of the many reasons we love the Benvereens
Hi Benvereens just wanted to remind you that "i'll be good" is extremely beautiful and a can't miss hit. Wow on you good people. you should be very proud of that and all your tunes. Brian
Ha! Well i'm glad you asked that Darren my son (pulls Darren aside gives him a shoulder hug). I think i owe all my success with the lovely ladies (WHAT SUCCESS?complete lie/UNTRUTH-JIMMY THE MYSPACE OMBUDSMEN/EDITOR) due to modeling the behaviour/style/wit/and charm of Bobby Vitmen, Sammy Maudlin and William B from the glorious SCTV. ask away my son. Brian
Hmmm this might be long, but you DID ask...it makes me think of a washcloth that fell out Chris Hillman’s back pocket in the 70’s...found in a village bar by Neko Case...who used it to wipe up a spilled drink...remained on the bar a few hours more...picked up by a woman named Tess...she was leaving with a stranger she just met (or so she thought)...held thoughtfully through an hour of walking-home-conversation...folded neatly over the handrail of a rural front porch once she realized it was NO stranger...waiting on the damp wood through the dense, humid twilight...
Next morning TIGHTLY wringing every bit of moisture out of that washcloth might yield the benvereen sound (through my limited exposure)...
me again (as the Benvereens quickly dive into various nooks and crannies of their space age myspace cyber entity thingmabob in a sneaky rouse to make Brian think that they are not in fact present)
i've been meaning to tell you and anyone who would listen to me (stop laughing Darren i see you behind that stack of hockey cards) to check out some of my faves that i have come across on myspace: you already know about the awesome Gypsy Road Hogs, but please see the stunningly gorgeous Screen Prints (i'm totally in Love with them and may in fact get banned from cyberspace...so beautiful)
