This very disturbing story revolves around the depletion, pollution, and destruction of the Earth’s water supply, fresh and salt.
The Betrayal of Man is a short myth/folk tale. The story portrays life, water and energy as characters struggling over time to live with one another. As the balance of the three becomes weighted on the side of life, more specifically man, resources are lost and life soon leaves the planet behind with out a clean, pure water supply. The story has many underlying themes. Test yourself and see if you are conscious enough to figure it out. Surfers appear as the "messengers" of the ocean attempting to warn man of the coming doom. The surf culture should have the most important activists in water quality. We are one of the few lifestyles that require clean water for our enjoyment. With exposure to these facts and myth one day maybe we will be.

How Serious Is Our Water Problem?
Why Are We Choosing Bottled over Tap Water
The question might be best answered with another question: When was the last time you chugged down tap water over bottled water? Educator/artist Nathan Paul Gibbs in his new book, The Betrayal of Man: Water, A Book of What Is and What Will Be, presents the rundown on the urgency of solving our water problem now. The book won the 2007 HelpBlueWater Earth Day "GAIA" Award for Literature.
According to the National Geographic Society, approximately eighty children die every twenty minutes from poor water conditions. More and more people are turning to bottled water—the manufacture of which should be clear indication of serious is drawing issues and more concerns on its own—than the water we get from our homes. We have not realized that this recent focus on bottled water is not a natural part of modern living but a dire signal of the degradation of our water resources and our environment in general. The Betrayal of Man is a unique presentation of the negative facts and statistics that we must all be aware of learn about. The book portrays surfers as the last messengers the water has on its side. The surfers' plight Is a struggle with most of the population, as they learn the masses have been disconnected from Water, (the ocean) for far too long.
An educator, Gibbs knows how to catch and hold readers’ attention of all ages and has employed art images images vibrant with color and soul together with literature to put the message across. Through a fable, the author presents a future scenario that could become fact if we do not heed the warnings of Mother Earth.
Even in the most progressive cities in the world, bottled water is the preferred choice and even still, water-borne diseases threatens people’s heath. One can only imagine the situation in poor places sans the means of water purification. The next time you reach for bottled water, think about our situation and how you can help in conserving your most important resource.
Who I'd like to meet: From the book: Undeniably time is not on Man’s side. So through the hectic life of Man, the needs for Water only grow. But the supply never does. Water is constant, recycling at a specific rate, even with out chemical aid or mechanical cure. We have corralled it and cornered it. And as Man proliferates upon this orbiting wonder, trying to advance itself, being engrossed in current malignant themes, jumping on the band wagons, and following useless causes, its partner and life long companion is left behind. Usually Water is nothing more than an after thought as it trickles away down the drain of despair. Water beckons Man for aid. It gives so many warning signs but Man chooses not to see. We only truly take heed when it kills or destroys Man. Then we are reminded that it needs attention. It is sick and wants our help.
It lets us play and drink its life. What does Man do to thank it? Poison. Man poisons every living thing through the mistreatment of Man’s life giver, Water. Man’s bio-waste poisons the rivers. Its manufactured waste is dumped into bays, lakes, and oceans like they’re a biological trash bin. Man’s technology kills aqua-ecosystems. Man’s appetite grows larger with every generation. And in the end man will have its fill. Until all water is nothing but poisonous toxins. And then where will man be?
Left to drown in his waste. And starve from his pleasures.
Next time you touch, see, drink, enjoy, or curse water for your own reasons, imagine life with out it. You can’t.
Citizens of the world pay attention. This could happen in your lifetime…..
