Elliott, Tommy, and Dave met while attending the infamous NYU. Having played around in the basement of their freshman-year dorm, following graduation they decided to give some real rock music a try. Elliott brought Brooklyn College student Alex Penman into the mix, and the deal was sealed. The four musicians brought influences and styles from across the musical spectrum, from blues to bluegrass, country to soul, and hard rock to classic rock.
Big Hat (named for the big man-HAT-tan) got together to do their first show in Tribeca in October of 2008, and playing together just felt so right. Since then, they've played all over New York and continue to bring it at each and every show.
