The Bishop Elect has seen many shapes and forms over the past few years. They started at the end of summer 2003, when Andrew and Matt hooked up with longtime friend Eric in a coffeshop-friendly trio of two acoustic guitars and a djembe. When Eric had to go back to college on the other side of Texas, Andrew and Matt were left to play parties and mini-venues as a duo, inviting Eric down for the occasional holiday. In spring of 2004, the two remaining Austinites recorded their first EP, A Song For You. The two guys took the songs they had been playing for 9 months on congas and guitar and expanded them into full band arrangements, performing multiple guitars, bass, drum set, piano, and much more. Dylan met the two guys at a show and joined the group at the beginning of that summer on bass guitar, providing the support necessary for Andrew to make the switch to drum set and for Matt to (occasionally) whip out an electric. Eric moved back for the summer, and the four guys played a slew of 6th street shows and creamed a bunch of college kids in a battle of the bands. After Eric returned to college, the trio continued playing shows and writing songs, eventually recording their second EP, Its Not Long Til The Next Time. The group played a handful of shows that spring, whilst juggling college applications, and were occasionally joined by longtime friend, Maurice. Maurice had been recording violins with the group since their first EP, and finally joined the band for good at the end of spring, in the midst of recording a full-length album, In Other Words. This record was intended to be strictly acoustic, a tribute to the unplugged coffeeshop days. The band played some shows in its support, but almost directly went into recording a new set of songs as a four-piece group. This set of songs wouldn't be finished before the group had to part ways at the end of summer. They played a farewell show halfway through August, featuring their friend Elliot on keys and vocals (yet another addition to the band), and have since spread across the country to Oregon, New Mexico, New York, and Texas.
It has been quite some time since The Bishop Elect has all played together, but they're still making good music, not infrequently with each other. Look below to see what everyone's been up to lately:
Every Christmas season, I find myself wondering, what kind of a kid was Jesus? I mean, after he got himself out of the manger? We shot this video in 1992 with my daughter Willow. It's won some awards and is used in churches, temples & Sunday school classes. It addresses homelessness and caring for each other on this planet. It's called WHEN JESUS WAS A KID. Feel free to pass this on to friends and family. Happy, merry, warm and loving holidays to you and your loved ones. Bye for now - Peter Alsop

Mom let me quit the wrestling team, but NEVER piano lessons. Drats! Professional wrestling would have been way cooler than the Drawing Board. Oh well...how'd your Mom influence your life path?
Hey matt, thanks for the comment you left 2 weeks ago. I'm trying to catch back up again on all the comments.
Glad you enjoyed the tunes. Keep rocking yourselves.
