Remarkable Moment: The Screens lift the curtain on Day 2 of Vital ’07. We’re off to a flying start. The Warrenpoint boys’ brand of grungy mod fills what is an already sweaty Radio One tent after Rory makes the relevant introductions.
Crowd Reaction: Despite their primary slot on today’s bill, there is a very respectable crowd gathering to check out what all this racket is about. The Screens sound similar to early B.R.M.C. at times, and The Music at others, so it’s no wonder why they’ve attracted so much attention in recent months. The punters seem be loving ‘The Camera Never Lies’ and get a little worked up at this early point in the day, which only serves to fuel the furious indie being battered out onstage. After the lads depart, having kicked out nearly a dozen tunes in half an hour, the tent is buzzing. A good start to what should be a great day.
“Sometimes a band will come along like ‘Black Alley Screens’ that just make you wish you were in a band yourself, they write great music….lovely guys that have a blast with everything they do”- Rory Mc Connell (Radio One Northern Ireland)
'Managing to squeeze their set in between The Ripps and ghouls walking past the stage (Neil’s Children were playing downstairs) were Glasgow trio, Black Alley Screens. Charming the crowd into submission with easy banter, they play a dynamic set perfectly blending old and new into tunes for the noughties that make your bones dance.
Highlights of their short set include ‘There is A Truth You Wont Believe’ - a retro soaked belter and ‘Shake Kill Rock 'n' Roll’ – which comes with short, sharp bursts of punky guitars. When you think you could peg their songs and figure out what was coming next, they bring an extra flourish that throws you, makes you stamp your feet at being wrong then finally shrug your shoulders after admitting defeat.'
