About The Black Hotels

The Black Hotels are an indie rock band from Johannesburg, South Africa. Their first release, a five-track EP called Beautiful Mornings, made them one of the most critically acclaimed SA indie bands of 2007 and 2008. The Black Hotels formed in May 2006. Three months later they played their first show at a small bar and live music venue called The Bohemian in Richmond Johannesburg. For a short while they were known as Films for the Next Century. The band's lyrics are written and sung by John Boyd and Lisa Campbell. John also plays guitar and Lisa plays bass. Neil White is the lead guitarist with Matthew Fink on synthesiser and glockenspiel and Warrick Poultney on drums. From the 50's to current day guitar bands The Black Hotels are influenced by them all, inspired by their individual record collections and the number of great artists that affect them. In November 2008 the group returned to the studio to record songs for their debut album due for release on 11 May 2009.
