Informant:
The Black Neon recorded Arts & Crafts on Solina String Ensembles, MiniKorg 700s, the RSF Kobol Expander, a Gleeman Pentaphonic & a SVC-350 Vocoder at the Audio Sonic Studiotechnik .
Though speaking not more then 17 words of the language, The Black Neons affinity and spiritual bond with Deutschland could not be stronger. On Arts & Crafts, semi autobiographical tales of love and de-conscription from the DDR army (Ralph & Barbara) and Man-Machine love affairs (TX81Z) blend seamlessly into The Black Neons sprawling instrumentals played in the traditional Motorik style.
Themes of love, loss and potent imagery of mastication, escaping to Mexico and silver sharks are all present. The Black Neon may or may not explore these themes further on future releases.
The Black Neon played his last show at the Motaryno Arts Fesitval in Poland at the end of 2001. He no longer plays live.

I get paid about $20-30 per survey I fill out from the famous PAYING Nielson survey company. They take about 10-20 minutes each, but it's fun too. You need a special invite to get in: Survey Invitation
"This record is a gathering of musical and noisy episodes collected from some recordgift (see ContaineR bio) between 2003 and 2005. Every track was produced separately by ContaineR (not together), some of them made using sampling and glitching techniques on their own executions. Gessica features her spoken in Branch & Bound."
Here's the review I wrote for UTV 95: The Black Neon “Arts & Crafts” (Memphis Industries, www.memphis-industries.com) In the tradition of Spacemen 3’s Pete Kember, aka Sonic Boom, Steve Webster, formerly half of the duo, Fort Lauderdale, has donned himself the Black Neon - Psychedelic Krautrock Pop mastermind. In ten songs and 36 minutes, the Black Neon weaves a nebula of dark matter, from Motorik instrumentals a la Neu!, early Kraftwerk or Harmonia to Space Pop Lounge music via Stereolab. In between, there’s some booming Secret Machines-style Rock and your Sonic Boom/J Spaceman inspired outings. Does it really matter that “Cast That Light” is swiped from Bob Dylan’s “Baby Blue” or that “TX81Z” is damn close to Roxy Music’s “Editions of You” on barbiturates? Nah, not really. Skip the new Beck album and buy this one instead. You’ll be a lot cooler. (CD)-chuck.foster
