"sounds as right on WFNX now as it would have 20 years ago."

"A common phrase that appears in a great deal of music writing today is one involving an artist’s ability to "paint pictures with their songs." If this sentiment was the norm, then The Black Tie Affair go above and beyond it. In short, these guys completely surpassed the canvas, and instead are gleefully throwing paint all over the walls, creating massive murals."

"John Paul delivers meaningful hooks with extremely versatile range and a ubiquitous vocal."

John from TBTA has the flu and "Breathe Slow" music video director cheers him up with some Spanish Courage.
The Black Tie Affair is an indie rock quartet from Boston, Massachusetts. Singer/Guitarist John Paul formed the band after stints with the bands Stillview, (the) Posters, and The Limericks, as well as his successful run as a solo act. After the release of his solo debut "Winter Trek", John went through a few line ups to find the right guys for the gig. With former Posters bandmate Mike Medina on board, John reached out to bassist Craig Medina and guitarist Dave Crespo for their respective talents, both accepted, and The Black Tie Affair was up and running. The band has release their debut album "Burning Down the Library" and playing around Boston as well as all over the country this summer!
WERS SAYS THIS ABOUT THE BLACK TIE AFFAIR:
A common phrase that appears in a great deal of music writing today is one involving an artist’s ability to "paint pictures with their songs." If this sentiment was the norm, then The Black Tie Affair go above and beyond it. In short, these guys completely surpassed the canvas, and instead are gleefully throwing paint all over the walls, creating massive murals. In his lyrics, guitarist/keyboardist/singer John Paul completely immerses the listener in the environment he is describing.
