My name is Stephen Castner and I have no affiliation with Alister Z. Desmond And The Blackwoods Orchestra. I have put together this site to document and preserve the greatest Rock N Roll experience of my life. In 1998 I stopped to have a beer at The Iron Side Roadhouse in Tuscaloosa Alabama. On stage unbeknownst to me stood the most intense and sizeable Rock N Roll presence since G.G. Allin. Led by Alister Z. Desmond, the Blackwoods Orchestra crushed through the last three songs of their set and fortunately I was able to capture enough rough audio and photos before my equipment was destroyed by the band. Since that life changing day, I have scoured the internet for any mention of the Blackwoods, but regretfully I continue to come up empty handed. From time to time tales of legendary debauchery and Kiss Ass Rock N Roll are whispered from town to town as the whereabouts of this gang of swamp rockers are presently unknown. If you can provide any info on this band please contact me via MySpace or email stephencastner@gmail.com.

Many of us have heard rumors of these guys spuradically touring. Some of us have had the opportunity to actually see one of their apocalyptic performances. While I have not seen them personally, I have had what you might call a personal experience concerning the Blackwoods. In 1994, while I was out of town, my roommate actually set up the band's first Florida show at our house. They borrowed some equiptment from us because the Police in Luisiana had confiscated theirs to pay for damages to their police station after a run-in with the band earlier that month. They destroyed everything we had. They also severely beat a friend of ours who was trying to prtect our gear during the show. Despite all of this, I was told that it was the most amazing live show anyone there had seen in their lives, and that many of them have gone out of their way to see the Blackwoods again. They have played in Tampa, FL a few times since that first show. There is actually a rumor going around that New Granada Presents has booked them for a Christmas night show at New World Brewery in Ybor City, FL this year! I've heard that all they wanted was a case of Jack Daniels and five prostitutes! I have no way to confirm this, but you could check with New Granada.
