   About The Blazing Cherries

The Blazing Cherries is a five-piece cabaret punk band, playing original arrangements of gypsy and European traditional music, as well as their own special brand of gypsy-funk. They are sometimes scandalous, always irreverent, and tend in their natural habitat towards a Weillian flair for the apocalyptic and perverse.

The Blazing Cherries is resident band for Cabaret Red Light, Philadelphia’s premiere vaudeville, burlesque and puppet theater company, with monthly performances at L’Etage, le cabaret francais.

Garnering something of a following in Philadelphia, and a “silent majority” worldwide, The Blazing Cherries rarely venture from the safety of their own homes, preferring total obscurity, darkness even, punctuated by brief, ecstatic moments in the spotlight. Reviewers agree, this is “the perfect background music for shooting yourself in the head.” Influences include Georges Brassens, Kurt Weill, Frank Zappa, Boris Vian, John Zorn, The Pogues, Plastic People of the Universe, David Bowie, Mostar Sevdah, Dresden Dolls, Tchavalo Schmitt, Louise Attaque, Serge Gainsbourg, Les Yeux Noirs, Tom Waits and Bulat Okudzawa.
