   Bleeding Skull's Blurbs
About me:

It's midnight. The cabinet door opens, revealing the scent of dusty cardboard. A mountain of big box VHS tapes lurch forth, demanding to be watched, appreciated, and most of all, never forgotten. Beware...they may rip out your guts!

Bleeding Skull launched in January of 2004. Why? Because life is too short, simple pleasures are easily overlooked, and the world doesn't have to be as serious as we think it does. It was time to express a lifelong obsession with all films spooky and trashy; to provide a haven for like-minded individuals that enjoy these films for what they are. Within these pages, clinical criticisms and schooled expertise will forever bow down to the savoir-faire that each film holds within. From the blissful to the torturous, there's no room for sulks. We're too busy having fun.

With an eye on functional design and both feet in the gutter, Bleeding Skull is dedicated to exploring the bizarre and obscure in vintage low budget cinema from the 1950s to the 1980s. Bags of hot air must be checked at the door.

I saw "Equinox" over the weekend on cable and I have to say, it was one of the greatest bad movies ever and I saw the preview on your website. I also saw a movie from Brazil called "Awakening the Breast", with the wierd and wonderful Coffin Joe. It was a crazy 60s LSD trip. One of the wierdest movies ever. You have to love it.

Regarding the Swedish band from "Blood Tracks", Bleeding Skull wrote:

"If it was 1985 and you were in a band called Easy Action, what would it take to change your name to Solid Gold? Easy Action is a wink-wink to the groupies, informing them that you and your bandmates are both available and willing. On the other hand, Solid Gold relates to the general public for certain that, 'we write the hits.' Fame or fornication? A tough question."

That's a great question, but unfortunately I think I found the real reason for the name change. The influential (and underrated) glam rockers, T Rex, have a song called "Solid Gold Easy Action" which reached #2 in the UK charts in 1972. Coincidence? Only Easy Action knows for sure...

My Bloody Spring Break

(from worst to first)

#6 Blood Feast (aka Night of a Thousand Cats - 1972)

#5 Bloody New Year (1987)

#4 Blood Tracks (1985)

#3 Blood Song (aka Dream Slayer - 1982)

#2 Blood Link (1982)

and #1 is...

Blood Rage (aka Nightmare at Shadow Woods - 1983) - The best film I’ve seem this year. It’s got it all; drugs, booze, an evil twin, serious gore, boobs, Atari, a holiday theme (Thanksgiving!!!), cussing, partying and midnight tennis matches. This would be the perfect slasher if it had an inspirational theme song (what’s up Fatal Games). I can’t recommend this enough if you like your slashers unintentionally goofy, but still kinda creepy.

Oh, yes.. you have indeed admirable captured all of the elements that make one of my top ten fave trash epics-Mother's Day-so great.

The VHS evaluation was spot-on, and I enjoyed the bit-deeper look into Mom's psyche, as opposed to the usual kudos given to the rampant consumerism.I,too, love The Rat Pack, and die a small death each time Jackie (Deborah Luce) is brutalized and humiliated .Also, the appearance of Queenie is exploitation genius.Freeze-frame endings are genius.I wish Beatrice Pons, (Rose Ross, A.K.A. Mother)was still around, bless 'er old heart.

Mentioned you while interviewed for this article about the store. (At southcoast247.com, at the top) I particularly like how he misspells Herschell Gordon Lewis, Don Dohler and Orson Welles' names; together at last.

Hey, 'Skull... I wanted to commend you on your humorous review of SOV sickie, Splatter Farm. I could literally feel the sleaze oozing through the screen with every word. Now I'm going to have to follow through with my original plan and pay out money for this garbage when it hits DVD in a few days.'Pity to hear they doctored the charming notecard titles, or whatever.Keep the trash flow high.
