The Blind Chitlin Kahunas are what they'd like to call a "blues-soul" band, with a deep love of the blues and a lust for the groove ... funky, rockin' and down & dirty. It sho' 'nuff ain't yo Mama's blues! A powerhouse quartet comprised of highly-talented, veteran musicians and longtime friends, finally united ... The Kahunas have a sound all of their own. Searing guitar, rock solid rhythm, volcanic keyboard work and truly soulful singing makes the Blind Chitlin Kahunas just what they are ... some bad-ass blues boys!
The band features guitarist & vocalist Chris Bovard, bassist & vocalist Kimbo Reichley, keyboardist Webb Kline and drummer Joel B Vincent ... all of whom are revered by their peers as top-notch musicians. While the band has only been performing as is for a mere five years, collectively, they bring over 120 years of combined musical experience to bear at every show. Performing regularly at clubs, concert halls and festivals throughout Pennsylvania and beyond, the Kahunas have also opened for soul legends Tower Of Power and shared stages with blues artists Tab Benoit, Hubert Sumlin, Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne, Levon Helm, Magic Slim, The Nighthawks, Smokin' Joe Kubek, The Tom Larsen Band, Ann Rabson and many more, as well as being two-time Memphis International Blues Challenge Semi-Finalists.
Individually, the members of the band have worked at one time with a veritable "who's who" of well-known artists, such as of Bo Diddley, Kenny Loggins, Lee Oskar & War, The David Rose Band, Hybrid Ice, Boston, Davy Jones, Joan Osborne, .38 Special, Levon Helm, David Johanssen, Chrissie Hynde, EG Kight, Steve Lambert (Roman Holliday) and many, many more. And, Chris Bovard has the distinction of having his own Signature Series "Kahuna" guitar, manufactured by Heritage Guitars!
With a variety of musical influences including Delbert McClinton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robben Ford, Little Feat, Buddy Guy, ZZ Top and probably a hundred more, The Blind Chitlin Kahunas own sound is truly unique within the blues world ... powerful yet dynamic, evocative and soulful, mesmerizing and ever-volcanic. Their first, self-recorded release ("Live!" - 2007) has sold extremely well, and the band's new, full-length original album, "This Old Guitar," will undoubtedly find its way into the hands of thousands of fans, old & new. The album "This Old Guitar" also features special musical guests & good friends Steve Adams (keyboards), Charlie Moore (harmonica) and the Sax-Maniac Horns.
The Blind Chitlin Kahunas are often joined at many shows by a variety of good friends, including harmonica gent Charlie "Blind Lewd Sambucca" Moore, harp master Chris Trasatti, outlaw country boy Frank Wicher (guitar, harp & vocals), blues man Jonah Gregory and others ... and every Kahunas performance is a musical experience to remember. Whether they're rockin', swingin' or funkin' ... with The Blind Chitlin Kahunas, gettin' the blues has never been so much fun!!
"It would be difficult to find a band who can put out a wall of sound as full and musical. It is for good reason they are among the most popular bands, not only in the Williamsport area, but regionally and beyond. All are masters of their instruments, but Bovard and Reichley are double threats, because they also are gifted singers." - Dave Thompson, Williamsport Sun-Gazette Showcase - December 2008.
"I have to admit, the first time I ventured out to listen to The Blind Chitlin Kahunas, I did so based solely on the intrigue of their name. At the end of their first set I was a devoted fan. The Blind Chitlin Kahunas are to the blues scene, what a lime is to a gin and tonic. They are ever-vigilant in their commitment to 'rock out' the blues, yet are unabashedly true to the art form." - Rob Steele - Executive Director, Community Arts Center, 2009.
Chris Bovard (Guitars & Vocals) - The Big Kahuna himself, Chris found his interest in the guitar about the same time he learned to walk. He has appeared on stage with the likes of Kenny Loggins, Lee Oskar & War, Lita Ford, Buddy Miles, Sonya & The Revolucion and many more ... and he was even on TV's Magnum P.I.! Chris has a special gift when it comes to the guitar ... he's right in your face and plays with true heart, soul and passion. Chances are great that he'll give you goosebumps. By day, you can find Chris helping his fellow musicians get all the right gear at Robert M. Sides Music. Buy him a shot of Crown Royal at a gig, and he'll be your friend for life!
Kim "Kimbo" Reichley (Bass & Vocals) - Kimbo benefits from more than 30-odd years in the music business as a bassist, vocalist, songwriter and recording engineer. He also plays acoustic & electric guitar, mandolin and keyboards ... performing often as a solo act ... and he's well-known for his penchant for cool scattin'. Kimbo performed in many bands throughout the 70s & 80s, including (most noteably) The David Rose Band. After that, he found his way to the kickin' 12-piece R&B band Daddy-O & the Sax Maniax ... but now ... he's a Kahuna! A highly-talented singer & bassist, Kimbo lives in the groove ... and is a true master of "bass face." He's simply Kimbo-liscious!! He also owns and operates his own busy recording studio, Kimbo's Music Studio, in Lewisburg, PA.."
Webb Kline (Keyboards) - Webb, now finally welcomed to the lineup on a regular basis, is a keyboardist to be reckoned with by anyone's standards. An original member of the highly successful rock band Hybrid Ice, Webb brings years of experience performing & recording with a myriad of rock, blues and country artists. Having recently returned from a few years in Nashville, TN, Webb's finely-honed skills on Hammond B3 organ, piano and electronic keyboards tend to leave audiences rather speechless ... and now, thanks to Webb, the entity that is "The Blind Chitlin Kahunas" has finally become the band it was always meant to be.
Joel B Vincent (Drums & Vocals) - Joel "B" has been drumming for over thirty years and has performed with the likes of the legendary Bo Diddley, Davy Jones, Joan Osborne and Tino Gonzales, and has worked behind the scenes as a drum tech & stagehand for dozens of artists, including Levon Helm, The Pretenders, Joan Jett, .38 Special, Patty Smyth, John Waite and more. Joel also manages the stage at each year's Billtown Blues Festival. A fluid, funky, expressive and dynamic drummer ... Joel is very well-respected on the regional scene. He's also the creator & webmaster of BilltownLive.com, the Williamsport area's coolest, most popular website about local music, entertainment, culture and more.
Every Blind Chitlin Kahunas show is hot, fresh and funky ... because this band is all about good times!! Aside from the Kahunas' own, great music ... you'll also hear rockin' covers of a few of their favorite artists, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Robben Ford and Buddy Guy. And, there's always the distinct possibility that you'll get lei'd by the band!! Come to a show and find out just what we mean by that (wink, wink)!!
