The Block Radio was first broadcast on July29th, 2005 on 88.5 fm Georgia State Radio in Atlanta, Ga and was an instant success, but at that time it was not known as "The Block" it was named "G-Radio" and was the FIRST & ONLY(to this day) CHOPPED & SCREWED radio show east of the Mississippi River... Then it was DJ Stretch on the Ones & Twos and DJ NK was the host. After about a year of successful broadcasting the show was forced to go off the air due to DJ Stretch Violation Parole and being sent back to prison ...
Stretch served over a year and was AGAIN paroled back out and has not been back since(APPLAUSE!!!WAY TO GO STRETCH!)! At that time local Entertainment Heavyweight had just started a revolutionary new Internet/Satellite Radio Website/Station... Vision Vibe Entertainment Approached DJ Stretch about bringing his old show back to the air since there was such a strong local demand for the Popular DJ to return to the airwaves... Stretch who was currently signed with local Record label and Northside Powerhouse "MONEY HUNGRY RECORDS" & "OSDL ENT". So between all these local big timers G Radio was made back into its original form of a Chopped & Screwed Mixtape Brand & a NEW BRAND was made! "THE BLOCK" was to be the name of the Radio show which was to continue with its mixtape background an roots and allow DJ Stretch to continue to perfect his craft anfd stick to his own format, THE BLOCK MIXTAPE RADIO. Also the brand started is own internet TV Show on (www.veoh.com). Just search THE BLOCK TV. Also the brand made a major move by dropping "THE BLOCK MIXTAPE pt.1: MONEY HUNGRY EDITION" featuring P FLOATA, PROPHET, CHUCK BIZZLE, MR. COPE, PIMP TE, DUESCES WILD, MIXED BY STRETCH, and THE REST OF THE MONEY HUNGRY CAMP... It was a huge success... VVC Radio debuted "The Block Radio" on October 15th, 2007 and like everything else Stretch was doing at the time... IT WAS GOLD!
After A few months on the air The show was picked up by XM channel 66. The buzz created by the show on the internet it caught the attention of XM 66 head honcho LEO G THE GENERAL who is a DJ himself in Washington DC... He brought Stretch on to help do some of his Production on his show as far as commercials etc, etc... Also The Block Radio was on once a week on Saturday nights at 9pm. After 3 months of that schedule The show went from one hour to 3 hours!!! DJ Stretch also brought on Money Hungry Records Recording artist Ra Drizzos & local comedian Black Elway to co-host... The show continued to strive and gain more popularity... Ra Drizzos ended up leaving to pursue his rap career with Money Hungry after signing a new deal(METRO PCS COMING SOON!!!) & Black's career also took off and is now on tour in Canada after being on Comedy Central Live @ Gotham.
Since the demand for the show was ever growing DJ Stretch & the producers realized the should not re new the contract with VVC Radio due to internal conflicts and they should try to make the show a Daily thing on XM...
After a month of being a Daily hour long mixshow DJ Remy Pockets Long time friend and one of the few Northside DJ's that works with Stretch on a consistant basis. The two have been resposible for some of the most Rawkus, Infamous parties of all time in Atlanta. Since then they have both been through alot in the publics eye and outside the publics view... Now more focused on Longevity in the game both DJs are working towards a coming goal...
Most recent updates saw XM & Sirius Merger put XM 66 out of business... Shade 45 the only other station thats format would suppport THE BLOCK and its DJ's refused to allow the show to have not even ONE single night...
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO... Stretch went to XM,who might i add did not want to let go of a show that draws on average hundreds of thousand of listeners a night and got the show moved to XM channel 43 "XM-UNDERGROUND" Since this station plays several diffrent types of music and allows all shows to pick their own music it was the ideal spot for the show... Monday thru Saturday 11pm to 12:30am. Sunday Nights Live Club Mixes on XM 81 "BPM" 11pm to midnight
ALSO THE SHOW NOW HAS BROUGHT ON A FEMALE Co-EXECUTIVE PRODUCER AND NEW MARKETING DIRECTOR... MISS KO!!! Who will also be on the show daily
