“This music is going somewhere, I have no doubts about it,” says Glenn Kendzia, frontman of The Blue Rhonda. Apparently, others agree. TBR was recently selected as a finalist in Boston’s Rockus™ Battle of the Bands, sponsored by Rolling Stone Magazine. TBR's brand of alternative pop blends contemporary rock with throwback organ sounds of the 70s, evoking the affect of Jason Mraz and Maroon 5, and the quirkiness and experimentalism of Ben Folds, The Rocket Summer, and Moe.
Fronted by songwriter Glenn Kendzia, The Blue Rhonda is a Boston act comprised of students from Emerson College and Berklee College of Music. Their music is a reflection of their collective influences, which run the musical gamut.
“My influences are all over the place," explained Kendzia. "But I like things that are catchy and memorable. One day I’ll be at a Bob Weir & Ratdog concert, while the next night I’m getting banged around in the crowd at a Saves the Day show.”
The band has had a successful start to 2009, from shooting a high-budget music video for "The Web Effect," (in post production), to signing with Boston independent record label, Wax on Felt. The band will release a full length album this year, with recording starting this summer.
