Influences
The Zombies are influenced by both the psychedelia of the 60's as well as many of the current musical fashions. Picture a Quentin Tarrantino film made in 1968 and the sountrack would pretty much nail it...
If the Peter Gunn meets Peggy Lee vibe on their new single, "Fever," is any indication, the neo-lounge music world won't know what hit 'em when they hear The Blue Zombies. The band's unique blend of surf, jazz, R&B, and vintage lounge is simultaneously exhilarating and evocative, supplying a fresh sound to otherwise classic fare. –

"Blue Zombies - exemplified by their electrifying "Fever"/"Peter Gunn" mash-up - re-animates classic pop tunes with a vivid verve and sexy spirit
that make them sound fresh, vibrant and brand new, certainly much more sonically stimulating than anything else currently emanating from
modern air waves."

The Blue Zombies take an old dog and teaches it new tricks as they infuse the 1958 standard with a cover of the Peter Gunn theme to create a fresh faced version of "FEVER" with an ultra cool lounge feel. The Peter Gunn theme, a hip, bluesy brassy number with an insistant piano and bass line, originally composed and performed by Henry Mancini, is not a common pairing for a classic pop standard, but somehow it works. To the musical purist, the listener will be shocked at first when you hear the underbeat melt into the chorus, and then the listener will be amazed when they realize how perfect the two mesh. Unconventional? Yes. Pure genius? Absolutely!
Greg Griffiths on piano and Michael Maratea on bass do an amazing job keeping the classic riff true to form and intensity, all encompassed by a melting pot of ambiance created by Judson Brown on guitar, and Scott Mensching on percussion. Meanwhile, singer Cristen Navolio offers up a classic and soft vocal lead that is worthy of any classic crooner. Soothing and breathy in parts but also strong enough vocally to growl the heated lyrics, her voice is worthy of being comparable to the likes of Billie Holiday, Brenda Lee, and yes, even her royalty Ms. Peggy Lee.

What can I say about The Blue Zombies? You know that old peanut butter cup commercial where they say, “Two great tastes that taste great together”? Well, that’s exactly how I feel about this version of “Fever.” Who would have thought a mash-up of “Fever” and “The Peter Gunn Theme” would be so cool…and so rocking? I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
