First off, the Boards recordings you hear are available only because Monroe (the singer) had the good sense to save these lost tapes in the truck of his car for 25 years. Thank you Monroe. Denny Morrison started the Boards in 1978. Originally the band was called the Tweezers. By 1979 the line-up ready to perform outside of the garage rehearsal space.
The essential Boards members were: Denny Morrison on guitar, his brother Steve (the Boy) on six string bass, Monroe Lenov (Marty Lloyd) on vocals and Steve Hudecek (Boot) on drums. Other members of the band were John Nyman (the first bassist). John he quit after the first live performance so The Boy took over on bass. Later after Denny moved to NYC (1981) his brother took over on guitar and Lisa Verstig played bass.
Mike Anderson was the original drummer but he was retired for his lack of commitment, which is kind of a joke because the Boards were very non-committed to anything other than sleeping in late, lookin' for chicks, smoking cigs, drinking beers, stealing transmissions, riding around in beat-up hot rods, and your basic hoodlum kinda stuff.
Somehow the Boards managed to put together a fierce live band with amazingly well crafted original songs. Soundco Records released a small edition of the Boards recordings for the very first time in 2003. You can purchase the Boards at www.cdbaby.com/theboards Most of the recording was done live to 2-track analog tape, engineered by Steve McCallister in his basement 1980 and the sound quality is pretty amazing. The recording features the essential members: Denny, The Boy, Monroe and Boot.
Denny and his brother Steve currently have a project called "the New Evils" with their old friend Mike Kirkland. www.myspace.com/thenewevils
