The Boat People have just been added to The 2008 Great Escape Festival
Lineup (Brighton UK, 15th 16th and 17th of May). They join a line up that so
far includes Vampire Weekend, Iron and Wine, The Wombats, The Young Knives,
Crystal Castles, Cut off Your Hands, Kelly Stoltz, Ladyhawke, Operator Please,
Saul Williams, The Black Lips, The Hold Steady, We Are Wolves Okkervil River
to name a handful.
They'll also swing by London for a Club Fandango show @ Dublin Castle
in Cambden (more shows to be announced). The Boat People's as-yet untitled second
album will be ready just in time with mixing due to wrap up mid-April.
The band are also pleased to announce that they have signed a publishing deal
with Ivy League Music (The Vines, Youth Group, Josh Pyke, Red Riders,
Sparkadia and well, most of our favorite Australian bands) in what promises
to be the beginning of a beautiful freak out in a moon-age daydream oh yeah!
In other news, The Boat People's "Unsettle My Heart" of yesyesyesyesyes will
feature on CMJs Music Monthly Magazine/CD in March. All you North Americans
go pick up a copy or alternatively tune into KCRWs Mornings Become Ecclectic,
where Nic Harcourt has been spinning it. Has spun. um... New Album update Armed with a bunch of cracking news
songs and the subtle genius of producer J.Walker (Machine Translations), The
Boat People roll up their sleeves to begin recording their highly anticipated
sophomore album. With a clutch of 25 formidable songs whittled down to a sterling
field of 14, the lads now begin playing to tape in the shadow of the picturesque
Byron Bay lighthouse - using the desk that Midnight Oil recorded on. They then
decamp to Walker's secret hideout (an old general-store/bakery in the Victorian
Bushland just outside Melbourne) to finish the job. You'll have to wait till
'08 to hear the record but but you can catch a live preview with a handfull
of shows just announced for the lead up to Christmas in Brisbane and Melbourne.

I don't care if I never make top friends again.. Being privileged enough to hear your brilliant music is enough for me. Congratulations on the album lads.
Hey doods! I just wanted to apologise for not making it to your gig at the Troub the other week. I finished exams and passed out at about 7.30pm so there was no way I could have been there. I am dead keen to hear the new album in full so I will be at your Zoo gig with bells on! What I have heard so far is brilliant! The best one yet I reckon. See ya in August. Cam.
