The Boiling Suns mine three far-flung musical histories to appeal to fans of funk, punk, garage rock, blues, and metal. Harnessing the copious power of the trio, they are dedicated to playing heavy, blues-based rock hard and loud wherever it might be dispensed. Charging riffs and dive-bombing solos are buttressed by thunderous drums and the thrum of the bass on the plutonium-heavy “Get Me” and “Proof,” while a harmonica surfaces on slower-burning rock fuses like “Couldn’t Look Away” and “Workin’ Alone.” Seeking the sympathetic ears of fans of Led Zeppelin, Cream, Blues Explosion, R.L. Burnside, The Boiling Suns provide “Hendrixian solos and distorted guitar” with “a smidge of sludge, a dash of psych, and punk feedback to taste.” (Kat Renz – San Francisco Bay Guardian)
Guitarist and singer Xico Manarolla joined drummer Ben Richardson in January 2008, with bassist and harmonica player Chris DeMento coming on in March, rounding out the low end and adding a down-home harp. Fleshing out the skeletal demos laid down by Manarolla, the group married the improvisational tenets of blues and jazz to the amplified fuzz of 60’s and 70’s rock. Drawing inspiration from such unlikely sources as the La Brea tar pits or the Davidson Wildcats, they crafted songs that veer between tectonic riffs and resolve into plaintive blues. These three east coast transplants are in the process of recording their first EP, as yet untitled, and continue to ply their rock up and down the west coast.
