Instead of an endless list of bands we love, we've decided to use this section to talk about what we're into lately.
At the moment, we're listening to:
Opeth, and for contrast, the beautiful new single from Grizzly Bear. I thought I didn't really like them! Maybe I don't...but man, that new song is just unbelievable. Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjecYugTbIQ

The Bomb Tasty Yum-Yums are a 22nd-century rock band from Jupiter. Shortly after discovering (and falling in love with) satellite transmissions of Earth Pop, the rag-tag bunch decided to make The Blue Planet their new stomping ground. Unfortunately, their spaceship ran out of plutonium on their way to California, and they now currently reside in Columbus, Ohio, where nobody knows who they are or why they are here. The most tragic irony in their series of mishaps is that shortly after they attempted to draw some attention around Columbus, they discovered that Columbus’s music scene is best compared to a rotting dog carcass that no one could possibly care about or ever will. After playing their first show, the band promptly attempted to vacate Ohio as quickly as possible, only to discover that Earthen gas stations will not begin carrying plutonium for another 72 years, so no matter how badly the Yum-Yums want to leave, they are stuck in this backwater burg forever and ever and ever…unless YOU help by buying their first official album, “22nd Century Fashion Show” in 2009!
A colorful musical journey that defies traditional description, "22nd Century Fashion Show" is a humble concept album about their first impressions of Earth, clocking in at a modest 35 minutes, but covering a vast array of sound and ideas. From the first cold chanting of a robot chorus singing "Love, love, love, love" in the opening track, "Rock and Roll", to the straight-up dirty crunk of "Waitress", to the rallying war cry of "All the Kids" to the heartache and heartbreak of 80's-style ballad "Out Here", the band is seemingly incapable of sitting still on any one genre, sometimes not even through a whole song.
It is any wonder, due to their uncommon upbringing and the collage of musical influences the individuals bring to the table, that the album is cohesive at all. And yet it is, as it bubbles and flows from 70's glam-rock to old-school hip-hop to 80's pop to 90's house music to 21st-century indie rock, tipping their collective hat at the likes of David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Talking Heads, Nine Inch Nails, and sometimes even Madonna.
The shimmery chaos comes together and finds a home underneath the otherworldly croon of front man WarMaster Photos, whose bizarre voice resembles few others as his lyrics shift from the deeply personal to the surreal, sometimes tongue-in-cheek, at other moments touchingly sincere, never taking himself too seriously, even as you can hear the tears rolling down his face on the closing track.
It is only appropriate that such a great little indie-pop album to come out of Columbus, Ohio would come from visitors to this world. Let's show them that us Earthlings aren't all bad and give them some support! All they want is a little love, compassion, and to share their creations with us. What an exciting time to be alive!
