The Boots were formed in June 2001 by Lachlan McLean (guitar) and Shaun Ryan (bass). They managed to score a gig a week away at EV's in Croydon supporting Matramuta and so they recruited the terrible drumming skills of Andrew from Elmoe on a temporary basis. This temporary basis ended up being extended as Andrew became a better drummer. Many songs which are still played today were written in that first week, such as "Teenage Crack Whore", "Dex Amphetamines" and of course "The Boots".
The band carried on playing several parties, pubs and all ages gigs before Andrew announced he was leaving the band, the very day Lachlan was planning to kick him out. This left the Boots drummerless for Matt's party, at which they were supposed to play with bands such as Three Bags Full (later becoming the Disease), the Living Abortions, Dr. Monkey and more. Somehow, Lachlan convinced Shaun that he could drum, and recruited the guitar skills of Ryan Evans on guitar. So as not to tarnish the oh so perfect Boots record, the band peformed under the name "the Laces", and to this date I can't recall a time when all three Boots were that drunk.
Ryan continued to play on a temporary basis before becoming a permenant member in mid 2002. Due to this, Lachlan became the permenant drummer, and Shaun and Ryan traded axes, leaving Shaun as the guitarist and Ryan as the bassist. The Boots have millions of new songs, and are planning on doing a fair bit of recording, touring and defamation for the rest of 2003.
2003 became a prolific year for The Boots, playing around 70 shows for the year, including the coveted Eltham Festival. The Boots won the battle of the bands at the Eltham Festival event, but were disqualified after playing "Eat Shit", a 70 second song which includes about 50 swear words. In defence of Fruitbowl Productions they had asked all bands to eliminate all offensive and derogratory language from their set. In offence of Fruitbowl Productions, Fuck the Fucking Fuckers. What a bunch of cunts.....
2003 also saw the release of The Boots debut album "Eat Poison". Eat Poison is a 16 track record which includes two of the original songs from the debut EP "Porn Punks" and 14 brand new songs which soon became live favourites, such as "Cask Wine", "I", "Eat Shit", "Just 18", "Grannies" and "Frilly Knickers". The album was recorded at Jets Studios between August and October 2003 and was released at the second "Anarchy in Macleod" event at Macleod YMCA, presented by Frog in a Blender productions.
2004 was a quiet year for the band, with both Ryan and Lachlan persuing full time occupations, but this didn't stop main songwriter Shaun from continually writing gem after gem. Odd gigs that were poorly advertised kept coming until 2005, when the band supported No Idea at the Jam Tin in Cheltenham for the Tsunami benefit. This set was recorded live with the purpose of releasing it as a live record before attempting the difficult second album. Unfortunately the guy behind the mixing desk must have thought he was playing with a pair of tits, because vocals would be too loud, then too quiet, guitars were too loud, then the bass was too quiet. 2005 was quiet for the first half of the year as Ryan was preoccupied with the birth of his first son (how selfish). The second half of 05 resulted in mass rehearsal and writing sessions, with the group consolidating a large number of songs which will eventually appear on the much awaited second album.
The Boots started demoing these new songs in mid 2006, with two of these efforts found above in the very glam "Ghost" and the raw "Dirty Ol' Man". Other new songtitles include "He died with his pants around his ankles", "Autopsy", "If the Boots aren't playing (then it's really not worth it)", "Who's my Victim?" and a cover version of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust". The new album should be completed by March 2007 and released not long after.
The Boots are also planning on releasing a split 7" EP with Wot Rot. A similar project could also happen with The Worst, as it was on the agenda before their line up problems. With these sorted it still could be on the cards...
