‘I’ll say it again – they’re brilliant’
Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 music.
‘I hope we get to play together again’
Chaz Jankel, The Blockheads.
The Bottle Brunettes have made waves in the music industry as a result of a handful of showcase gigs with their unforgettable songs of mirth, melancholy, sin and supermarkets.
Their aim has been to create classic, well-crafted pop songs: full of nuances and observations allied to this country’s rich musical and artistic traditions, but based enough in common human experience to resonate beyond the geography. This commitment to songwriting has been reaping rewards with support slot offers from all-time greats such as The Blockheads and From The Jam, while Tom Robinson has championed them on national radio.
They were brought together by Poncho, whose wordsmithery and aptitude for catchy tunes in a previous group was hailed by GQ Contributing Editor Kevin Braddock as part of a ‘Nouveau Pop Conceptuel’ along with the likes of British Seapower and Architecture In Helsinki. Still Poncho wanted to reach further heights so set out to assemble a dream line-up of the finest musicians he could find. He succeeded. The band members have an international history of handling television and festival appearances with panache and have risen to this new musical challenge with big grins and genuine commitment.
They are currently working on an album's worth of material in Bowie/T-Rex producer Tony Visconti’s historic old studios in Soho, with producer/engineer Mark Aubrey, who has worked with the likes of Madness, Ray Davies and Thom Yorke for EMI and Konk.
If you think you might have something special to offer this project in any way (we’re very open-minded) then please feel very welcome to get in touch.
People keep telling The Bottle Brunettes that they can’t get their songs out of their heads – which is precisely the plan.
Here's what the eminent Tom Robinson said about the band on the radio the first time he heard them:
‘One Bad Pint’ from the brilliant Bottle Brunettes’…though we could just have easily played the equally fine ‘Don’t Disassemble Your Girlfriend’ – both of which are warmly recommended and can be heard at www.myspace.com/thebottlebrunettes.'

The Avengers? No...'fraid not but it's funny you say 'femme fatale'...a friend of mine commented that, in that photo, I look like Lou Reed haha... 'quite a hot female Lou Reed.' He asked if he was my dad...cool as it may sound to say yes..I'm afraid I'm only the daughter of a Southern Alabama blue blood. :p
