   About the boxer program
remember when boxing was real. when it was a way up and out. cassius clay told the german press that the united states was the greatest country in the world, no matter what anybody says, and we'll beat you as well. then he won a gold medal for a country where he still had to drink from a different water fountain. jumpin' joe louis went overseas and fought for the troops, and they dug it, black, white, red, or yellow, it didn't matter. jack johnson defeated the 'great white hope,' married a white chicago girl, and died in a fast car, all prior to the great depression. move quick. stay on your toes. trust yourself. take care of your friends. that's what this is about.

what others are saying

"Everything on Prizefighter EP crackles with the sort of intense (in a good way) intimacy that would make Sam Beam or the guys in Royal City proud. There's the way the band members talk and laugh at the beginning of "It's Fine, Don't Worry", instantly putting you at ease and drawing you into their world. There's the background noise in "Measured In Miles", which makes the EP sound like it was recorded at a coffeehouse while patrons went about their business, doing their best not to make any noise. There's the banjo in "Cowboy In The Movies", which makes The Boxer Program sound sweeter and more beautiful than any single mic recording has a right to be." Matthew Pollesel - Splendid

"The Shmat seems to get a lot of bands with the word "Box" in them... The Boxing Lesson, Boxborough and now this little EP from The Boxer Program. Let him tell you though: never you mind that these songs often barely rise above the whisper of empty country fields, never you mind the ever-present hiss of 4-track recording, and never you mind that you won't be the absolute life of the party playing these at your next football party bash. With little more than acoustic guitar, voices and occasional piano and banjo the band creates a dusky atmosphere that lingers surprisingly sweet, long after the songs have passed.....This is a blusterless, unpretentious, but ultimately winning combination of gentle tales spun for listeners of quieter folk/pop music." Schmat Records

"The Boxer Program, while extremely lo-fi, do not suck. The six songs contained on the Prizefighter EP are the perfect soundtrack to a warm afternoon spent burrowing into a couch with a good book, pen, and paper or a significant other. Firmly entrenched in the acoustic DIY sound, this trio plays inevitably addictive folk songs....Every song reads like a personal letter to a close friend, and the songs come off so easily.....this is what I have come to appreciate about this album. Each song desperately wants you to think that it was written specifically for you in mind.....Sometimes a song that wants nothing more than to say “it rained so hard I couldn’t sleep / stayed up and listened to the drops on the leaves / in the morning woke to the song of the whippoorwill” is refreshing after countless songs about getting drunk on red wine and making out with faded movie starlets." Eric McPhail - Delusions of Adequacy

Very nice, I like them a lot. The flower and typewriter, very artsy.

Okay, I only made up one word. But I mean, you have band pictures so it seems much more "professional".

... No comment. And I cannot speak for Maddie, so berate her yourself.

the bass is a brand called Italia. It's a smaller company. I think it might be Japanese made, but it looks and plays great. the tone sounds kinda vintage as well.
