The Boycotts were born an indie/ska 4 piece in the early hazy days of 2006. After hitting the local circuit they built up a solid rowdy fanbase and began producing fresh original material. After gigging for a few months they were noticed on the slightly larger scale and after a gig at Princess Pavilions were spotted by a record producer with whom they recorded a rough demo. Gigs flooded in for the remainder of the year with highlights including at support slot in Plymouth with Bad Manners, a storming hometown Lafrowda day performance and a sell out gig at The Acorn alongside local heroes Pondlife. But by the summer of 2007 cracks were beginning to appear. The original drummer was replaced by Ciaran Payne and additional guitarist Hamish Caird joined, to broaden and enhance the bands sound. The rest of the summer was a quiet one as The Boycotts re-surrected themselves, and are now back with an improved lineup and an albums worth of new punchy indie tunes. If your looking for something fresh, real and original get to a Boycott gig. No dodgy haircuts, no second hand sounds, no attempt at setting the next pre-pubescent fashion statements and generally no bullshit. Hope to see you at a gig soon.

The Acorn Arts Centre in Penzance is to be taken on a trip through Eastern Europe via Liverpool by the combined forces of home-grown klezmer-punk-gypsy enthusiasts “Julian Gaskell & his Ragged Trousered Philanthropists” and John Lennon inspired punk activists "The Oz" all the way from St Petersburg, Russia on Saturday 6th December.
This bizarre exchange of musical styles is likely to be quite a night, the last "Ragged Trousered Philanthropists" gig at the Acorn in July was a sweaty, dance floor storming performance of epic proportions with tickets sold out in advance. Having recently returned from a tour of Poland and Czech Republic, the Philanthropists have pushed their music even further beyond it's limits, and with the Russians in attendance they are sure to raise their game further towards ‘bourbon soaked vaudeville gypsy hoedown politico- punk' oblivion.
Tickets are available from The Acorn Arts Centre at £5 plus £1 booking fee per booking or by calling the Acorn ticket line on 01736 365520, make sure you book early to avoid disappointment, doors open at 7.30pm and the live music will continue until midnight.
