Since shortly after opening 17 years ago, the Crocodile Café has held a unique and revered place in Seattle's music community. A former Greek restaurant, "The Croc", as it came to affectionately be known, hosted seminal shows for some of the area's biggest exports (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Death Cab For Cutie) and became a hot stop for impromptu shows by national touring acts (Beck, Indigo Girls, R.E.M., Korn, Corrine Bailey Rae). First and foremost, though, The Croc was a proving ground for the vibrant Seattle music scene, the last venue left standing in a neighborhood being overrun with luxury condos and trendy eateries.
The Crocodile Café closed on December 16th, 2007, ending an era in West Coast musical culture but not before The Bradbury Press got a final swing at The Croc stage. Recorded over two nights with capacity crowds and a few musical friends, "Live at The Crocodile" bottles The Bradbury Press' live energy and delivers on their promise as one of the West Side's finest independent touring bands.
Bradbury Press have honed their sound over 8 years, two studio albums (The Front, Hanscom), and over 100 shows per year together. Call it Popular Americana or Rhythmic Roots Rock, The Bradbury Press proffer distinct vocals over driving acoustic-based tracks. The band maintains the same lineup featuring Darren Golden (vocals and acoustic guitar), Dave Brewer(electric guitar and the band's other vocalist/songwriter), Travis Hartman (bass), and Greg Garcia (drums) each contributing their talents to the whole.
"Live at The Crocodile" features live versions of tracks from The Bradbury Press' two studio releases (The Front - 2006, and Hanscom - 2003) as well as the new tune "Need To Say" and a cover of Adam Hood's "Million Miles Away". Joined on The Crocodile stage by friends Nathan Spicer and Ty Bailie ..boards, Dan Tyack on lap steel, and Travis Beard on banjo, "Live at The Crocodile" sounds every bit as large as The Bradbury Press' studio efforts but with their trademark live-karate-chop musical action intact.
