About
Hailed as “The best thing to happen to music since Bach”** the Braille Internets are a hard rock musical trio based in LA**, Michigan. They are best known for their renditions of “Good Green Earth Girl”, “I Wana Be Like You”, and their hit single “Lizzie”. They are also infamous for their onstage/offstage antics, hard partying, fast living, political activism, disrespect for authority, hefty arrest record, public scandals, private scandals, personality conflicts, musical innovation, religious advocation, and penchant for breaking things.
Forming the Band
In May of 2009, founding members Andy Smith and Dan Pock were driving to Pock’s house to retrieve a hat, when Smith suggested that The Braille Internets would be “a real cracker-jack name for a band, or something.”** A few weeks later, Smith and Pock agreed to perform together under that name for Smith’s performance in the 2009 AP English Talent Show.
The First Show
For their first gig, The Braille Internets chose to perform “Good Green Earth Girl”, written in 2006 by Smith’s older brother, Scotty Smith, and made famous by his band, Hub Nation. After the rollicking rendition, Pock broke into a drum solo while Smith destroyed his acoustic guitar by smashing it on the ground, later stating, “It just seemed like a neat thing to do”**. To this day, the subsequent details of the incident are unsure, but at least one attendee was purportedly killed by flying guitar shrapnel.
Development
After being asked to perform at Rock for the Doc, Smith and Pock decided to add third member, Scotty Smith, to the lineup. According to the younger Smith, the band needed “someone who sucked a little bit less.”** The band’s first official practice on May 27, 2009 resulted in “rollicking-ness and a few small fires.”** Andy Smith also began to craft his skills as a songwriter with the band’s first original song “Lizzie”, which quickly shot up to 1 on the list of songs Andy has written.
