Brandon Oliver - Acoustic Guitar, Vocals, Lyrics, Congos, Jokes
Influences
When a person list the influences of thier music, I think they are too quick to give credit to other musicians. I am a huge fan of the Grateful Dead, but my licks don't sound like Jerry's. The greatest influence in the songs a person writes is quite simpley the life they have lived. I grew up in a big family in North East Ohio. You'll hear that in my stories and my melodies. I cannot say however, that I was uneffected by the music I've saturated myself with including Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Ekoostik Hookah, Ricky Scaggs, Willie Nelson, and of course Snoop Doggy Dogg!
I have been under many other influences, but that story my friends will be saved for song.
Sounds Like
It is without a doubt that when you hear a band or a song you will relate it to something familiar. Since my PR firm was to busy cleaning up some legal issues from a prison release party I must go this opinion alone. My philosophy is simple. Tell a story, while you play guitar. This means that I will take on singer-songwriter persona that will lead to comparison to Bob Dylan or maybe even Ben Harper. I am going for Mountian Time Jug Band with suburbian influence. Sounds like a winner to me!
Like many of the great bands of our time including The Allman Brothers and Lynard Skynard, The Brandon Oliver Project was started in the southern United States. To be exact he was conceived in Virginia but born in Alabama. After 20+ years of doing little more than listening to the radio and spending endless time and money following bands, Brandon Oliver (founding member) teamed up with a Cortez Acoustic and began to learn to play.
While obtaining a BA in English at The Ohio State University Brandon obtained an unofficial licence for basic rhythm guitar. In 2003 he paired up his insturmental skills with his writing hand, and a one man act was formed. He has graced the stage in bands such as The Fire Walking Gypsies and Who's Pete, and he has sat in with bands such as The Tsunami Survivors and Color Wheel!!! In less than thirty years this small protazoa has created a whirlpool of excitement as The Brandon Oliver Project provides family entertainment for family members of all ages as long as they are over the age of 18 and without too many hang-ups.
