About me:
The Brass Rail originally opened in downtown San Diego in the early 1930s and moved to the Hillcrest area in the 1960s. The bar has gone through many changes throughout the years but has always been known as the oldest gay bar in San Diego. From the early days of gentlemen having to "put all hands on top of the bar" when police would come through with flashlights to our modern day mix of clientele, The Brass Rail has always opened it's doors to all walks of life.
The recent dramatic changes throughout the club bring on a whole new look and atmosphere that will attract the downtown crowd to Hillcrest and keep the local customers coming back. Private VIP rooms with bottle service, raised platform seating, cushy lounge areas and a spectacular new concrete bar are just a few of the changes. Still trying to keep some of the original fixtures, they have renovated a 1940s phone booth into a cell-phone booth, refurbished a chandelier from it's earlier days at the old Orpheum Theatre downtown, and brought life back to old stained glass ceilings. The restrooms are industrial looking, classy and clean, a nice treat these days.
With a San Diego first, Manic Monday's featuring .80 cent drinks and $80 bottle service, Ladies Night on Wednesday , a live showcase of music on Thursdays, Totally Tubular, Fashion Whore, and Sabbat's 80's industrial night on Fridays, and the continued success of Latin night on Saturday, the Brass Rail hopes to welcome new and old customers to a modern, fun and very comfortable club to spend some time in. It is definitely worth stopping by to see.
