This Band Just Had To Happen! Conceived by a restless collective consciousness calling out for something new. The Break Down are here to make a joyful noise filled with passion and purpose. Their music is filled with expression, fusing elements of different styles from jazz to hip hop, soul, rock and pop that leads them to the edge of convention.
Together The Break Down draws upon a unique blend of inspiration, combining positive and thought provoking lyrics, intense melodies and infectious grooves. Each band member contributes a distinctive element to the group's song-writing and stage show. This innovative ensemble is on a mission to entertain. Collectively, the group possesses an astonishing musical cohesion, seamlessly weaved with a freedom of improvisation that exemplifies the musicianship of each individual performer. This ability to spontaneously create music forms the foundation of the band’s distinctive freshness and variety. The band recently released their debut self-titled album at The Rivoli in July 2009. This year, they were also declared winners of Film Jam 11 at historic El Mocambo in Toronto and were selected to play The Toronto Independent Music Awards “ Best Live “ Showcase. The band has played at numerous Toronto venues including The Cameron House, Clinton's, Trane Studio, The Blue Moon and The Central. The band plans to start production on its sophomore album this winter. Stay tuned as this dynamic group continues to create new music and perform at venues around Toronto.
