| About Breathe |
|
This was a band who's main focus was perfection. Wether it was covering another band or writing originals they still managed to convey the magic in the music of the classic rock era. It also had quite a long history full of change, but the love for the music always remained the same. Starting off with a line up of Matt, Raf, Dan, Nick... our fist gig consisted of a surprise act during a fundraising event at the Marsa Sports club, where our father's band was the main performance. 4 songs were covered and considering the short amount of time it took to get prepared, it was quite a success. Shortly after this event Raf decided to invite a friend of his to try out for the band as a guitarist....when we allready had 2...lol Anyways, James climbed aboard and we got things rolling! After rigourous rehearsals we took on the BJ's Marathon of 2001, followed by another fundraiser at Razzett Tal-Hbieberija. Nick stepped out soon after. Next came the Hard Rock Café's Battle Of The Bands were we placed 2nd. Dan had to call it quits for a while as he was still too young for BJ's... we had enough problems getting permission for Raf to play!!!! By this time James and myself, had become very good friends and put more effort into the music. So much so, that we got our first duo act at a bar once called "The Rolling Stone". One of these gigs almost coincided with the Battle Of The Bands previously mentioned. While at Rolling Stone, we met a young talented pianist called Jeff who we just had to have in our band and after much persuasion, we pulled him aboard too. We then played again at the 2002 BJ's Marathon where we got a residency of almost every saturday night after that marathon. James and I also did a few gigs at the Delicata Wine Cellars in Valletta, one of these nights was themed on Vincent Van Gogh. Then a couple of gigs at Muddy waters, The Blues Bar, and once again as a duo act at what was once Cilantro. By this time we had gained much respect as a young talented band with tastes in music so mature, it would leave one thinking what our parents had to do with it! Back to BJ's saturday gigs.... then James and I were offered another duo act at Huggins. We did this for a couple of times and Benjie, who was the son of the owner of Huggins started joining in some songs till some songs became all the songs...lol. Disinterested with Breathe.. James shifted his focuses to the new formation with himself and Benjie called Drunken Munky. In the mean time James also played as a session musician for Ira Losco. As regards to Drunken Munky, due to certain musical dislikes I had with this new formation Myself and later Raf left to ponder what to do next. In steps Daniel and back with avengance the show rolled on bigger and better than ever before. More Floyds, Claptons, Stings! We dared the impossible... like an amazing outdoor gig at Exiles which was done 2 years running! and the production of the first single! All members of the band, whether founding or not, have come a long way. Its been a hell of a journey! A shame its over but alas all good things come to an end! Thanks to all who followed us.
