Kahan James and Bo Anderson met in UC Berkeley's dramatic art program in 1998, and formed The Bright Room in Los Angeles on September 11, 2005. They released their debut LP, Horror Crash Puzzle, in the spring of 2007, with the album's finished sound owing greatly to the help of producer Barry Goldberg, who guided the project through its mix and master. The album's title was taken from a New York Post headline for an article about a controversial freeway accident that read like a coded communique on the state of world affairs.
Joined by friend and bassist Tom Lintern, The Bright Room moved to Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood a year later, where they met drummer Michael Sosa. The band made its live debut on May 7, 2009, at the last in-store show at Virgin Records Megastore in Union Square, weeks before the chain shut down nationwide.
Sosa had to leave The Bright Room a short time after the Virgin debut due to a family emergency, and was replaced by drummer James Sefchek, a five-year veteran of the band Brazil.
The Bright Room are currently recording two new albums.
