Walker Hornung: New York City is a melting pot, and the music of Walker is what is cooking. In the early 1990's, He, along with the band Q-south, introduced New York City to a new sound, Hard Rock attacked by flamenco guitars. His songwritng partnerships with Chris Deleo and Edward Klinger created the timeless C.D. Q-South, that along with a string of unforgettable performances scarred New York City and The World. The band split in 1998. Walkers search for something new led him to collaborations with Soca sensations Machel Montano,Alison Hinds and Bunji Garlin. The Caribbean provided a brand new garden for Rock/Soca to take root. A string of hits later, and a few years after the debut release of Q-South, The Brotherhood of the Grape was assembled and the whole musical journey was recorded. All new C.D's of broken love, broken people, and broken images interwoven with magical musicianship from the world over. The first release "Almost Homeless" in 2002 established Walker's diverse musical ability, performing with some of NYC best musicians. In 2003 The Brotherhood recorded a Christmas C.D. for Cancer entitled "Bar-Humbug"the C.D. recorded in New York gin joints quickly became a classic for the holiday season. In 2005 the release of "The One and Lonely"...In 2006 The Soca hits collection called "Soca and Me"....2007 gave you duets with Alison Hinds,Trevor and Earl...2008 will be packed with a new Grape C.D. and some brand new Soca!
Walker, When I lived in the Virgin Islands, I got Calypso music morning, noon and night. Being a rock 'n' roll guy, it took me awhile to adjust to NEVER hearing anything but Calypso music on the radio. After a few months, the music just started soaking into my soul (Soca?). When I got to see Lord Kitchener and The Mighty Sparrow live at the Tent Show at the end of Carnival on St. Thomas, I was really HOOKED. I've been a huge Lord Kitchener and The Mighty Sparrow fan ever since. Most people know reggae, but they really don't know how great Calypso/Soca music is....Some day the world will know. Best wishes with the music.
