Voted Rochester's BEST Original Band By CITY Magazine 2007 AND 2008!!!!
The BUDDHAHOOD blazes it's own path with a fresh-sounding arsenal of musicians and original music. The 10 members of this World-ternative Orchestra are of vastly different musical backgrounds, creating a frothing melting-pot of ideas in which diverse musical influences converge to form sonic washes with innovation, nuance, and pure groove power. This could be the reason their music as a whole completely defies labels. Their latest release (Toasty-Live at The Park Ave Fest 2007) gives the listener a 2 CD, double
live album of all original music ripe with influences of rock, funk, jazz,
Latin American, Caribbean, African, and Middle Eastern sources. All this variety contributes to a dynamically powerful, electric show that continues to attract an audience as eclectic as the band itself. Each performance bubbles along with unstoppable rhythm, and flow until the whole joint is dancing ensuring the groove never stops.

Buddhahood shows are consistently such off-the-hook fun, you just kinda take it for granted. The horn- and drum-driven polyrhythmic glee winds higher and tighter as the dance floor takes on a sort of joyous frustration; the people aren't just dancing out there, they're trying to fly. And with little or no border between band and crowd, everyone in the place was in The Buddhahood.
It was like that last Thursday night. Dr. Bob and I strolled into the joint and got sucked into the zydeco riptide. Bob picked up a shaker and I brandished a mallet and took to beating an African drum loudly. If I'd have smiled any wider my skull would have fallen out of my mouth. Frank De Blasé

To attain the level of perfect enlightenment known in Buddhism as Buddhahood—a “union of wisdom and emptiness”—one must generally extract oneself from ordinary life to some degree, usually through abstinence from certain practices. In some doctrines these include a multitude of activities, but in others, not so much is proscribed. Suffice it to say that this Friday (Dec. 5), reaching the Buddhahood will require more indulgence than sacrifice when this ten-piece world groove group comes to town, and—in their words—will “rock your body, feed your soul.” Their style is called “worldternative,” and combines afro-beat, blues, calypso, funk, samba, rock, and reggae with eight vocalists, multi-percussionists, a full horn section, steel drums, bass, and guitar. You may not achieve Nirvana (the state of being, not the erstwhile rock band) at this show, but it’s pretty much a guaranteed, dance-till-you drop good time.
