Trailer park glam rock for the sexually ambiguous.
The Buffy Swayze started as a two piece synth/guitar/vocal freakout in 2001.With a piece of shit low-tech keyboard pre-programmed with drum beats, synthesizer loops, and live guitar and vocals, our sound was born. Eno-esque synth with Bowie inspired vocals against a backdrop of a guitar that sounds like Django running wild on LSD was our unique mix. After playing locally for about a year we decided to add live bass as well. The new line-up was accompanied by a newer model of keyboard. This rounded out the body of a stronger presence. In this capacity we played several out of town shows from 2002-2004 spanning from Bellingham,WA to Oakland,CA. We have now added a drummer and our line-up has expanded to four. We have not completely "pushed the robots out" however. The keyboard still functions in the band and is a part of an elaborate set-up involving a digitally programmed amplifier and a guitar synthesizer that can trigger sounds from the keyboard itself. We have evolved from tinkertoys to laserbeams, models to pirahnas, and our mascots our dogs and robots, selah...
Hey bands & fans of rock & roll. Coming in Sept. 2008 is a compilation cd of Humboldt+ bands which will benefit the Humboldt Council of the Blind. It will have a brand new track from the buffy swayze....the first with Ray on drums. If all goes well, the release will be at the 4th Annual HCB benefit show in Sept @ the Alibi in Arcata, per usual. Any bands who wish to contribute a song to the comp, please contact MethBogRecords@sbcglobal.net Making Blindness Fashionable. James
Thanks for posting Scent of the Opposite Sex! It was the first song I ever heard at a Buffy Swayze show! I will miss you guys, you were one of my favorite Humboldt bands. I have moved to Portland to reform The Jade Stems, amongst other projects. -+>Kyle
So, there is this Buffy Swayze song out there that I have never heard except for a short clip on kslug. Something about "opening for the Buffy Swayze" where and how can I hear this? Or must I wait for the new record to come out?
Hope things are good. Last time I saw you guys was at Brogi's for a St. Patrick's Day show last year. I met Jesse and he was like, "oh great, another fan..." I got a T-Shirt from that show. I played this show at Spaceland in Hollywood and wore the shirt, despite the fact that it's really tight and contricts breathing. But it paid off because a lot of people asked about it, and I said, "oh, funny you should ask... they're just the most rockingest, most happening band in Humboldt County!"
Lifestyle: Addiction in Humboldt's Rock Scene debuts today on my show at 1:00 on 94.1 KSLG. John did an incredible job telling his story in there, so I hope you get a chance to tune in. We'll also be re-running it at 6pm this coming Thursday (Feb. 15th) on Plastic Jackson's show.
If you can't pick up KSLG on your radio, you might try the web stream at www.kslg.com.
man, that video is now number one on my "favorite videos of sweet bands from eureka." the reigning number one up until this point was from a little band from long ago...the sinmen...god, buddy holly was cool.
Ray - that Pearl Lounge poster for December 8th...you been watching "Drawn Together" on Comedy Central? (I see you and two of your clones have opened a pizza place.)
