This site and the idea behind the site was based on
the kindness and generosity of Harold "Bump" Humphrey,
my grandad.
The idea is to "bump" others by doing random acts of
kindness for others. If you do, those people are
"bumped."
Over 30 years ago, a young man named Billy Von
Schriltz from Farmville got called to the principal's
office his senior year of high school. He was given
an envelope of money for his education at UNC-Chapel
Hill and a note that said, "If you are ever in the
position to do something for someone, be it of your
time or money, do so without expecting anything in
return." The note was signed "Your Guardian Angel."
Billy did not know who his benefactor was until years
later- and it was my grandad. Since that time, Billy
has made it his life mission to "bump" others by
random acts of kindness.
This month, www.thebumpexperiment.com has debuted
online and so has Billy's vision and mission. He is
writing a book about this concept....so please pass
this on to everyone you know!
I can't think of a more fitting legacy for my grandad. Some want to be remembered for fame, power, or
success- but after this, I'd be happy to just be
remembered for being kind and generous like my
grandad. He had no idea what an impact he made on
Billy and now what an impact in turn this has made on
a lot of other people.
"BUMP" someone that you know. "Bump" someone that you
don't know at all.
If you are ever in a position to do something for
someone, be it of your time or money, do it without
expecting anyting in return.
