Who says country can't rock? Surely no one who's ever heard the Burning Embers fiery honky-tonk sound. Featuring stellar vocal duets and barn-burning fiddle and banjo numbers, the Burning Embers are fueling a groundswell of old and new country fans with their unique, boot-stomping twist on traditional music.
Continuing the vocal tradition of country greats like George Jones and Melba Montgomery and the Louvin Brothers, the Burning Embers still ring true to their bluegrass and old-time roots with rollicking fiddle and banjo tunes that will turn any room into a honky-tonk. And though some have said their addition of drums might send them to a hot rock in bluegrass hell, if the Embers meet the Prince of Darkness the seats will be empty and the dance floor full. Drinkin, cheatin, and breakin up never sounded so good.
Though half the band members are transplants from either the South or the Great Plains states, these top-shelf musicians have been playing to Bay Area bluegrass and country audiences for years. The Burning Embers have graced the stage of the legendary Slim's, Cafe du Nord, Bottom of the Hill, and many other fine Bay Area venues. Featuring current and former members of Red Meat, Misisipi Rider, the Plain High Drifters, and more, the Burning Embers are putting the classic back in country.
Thanks for the add. I love that honkt tonk and twang. I can't make it to the Plough and Stars tomorrow night, but I hope to catch you live in the near future. Great music.
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
