'The Californians' are a tribute band, but unlike other such bands they pay tribute to a place and time rather than to a specific artist. Early 70s Californian music - artists such as James Taylor, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Doobie Brothers, Linda Ronstadt, Crosby Stills & Nash, Carly Simon, Neil Young, Jackson Browne and the Eagles; songs like 'Fire & Rain', 'You’ve Got A Friend’, Marrakesh Express', 'Take it easy', 'You're so vain', 'Heart of Gold', 'Listen to the music' etc etc
Laurel Canyon, California was a hotbed of creativity and this particular group of musicians all had connections with each other, as friends performing on each other's albums, and sometimes lovers. If you look on the credits of a number of these songs you will begin to see how intertwined they all were. They became an integral part of the Californian songwriting scene and formed an influential part of American West Coast music, with exceptional performances at Woodstock and The Troubador that are still fondly remembered today.
The concept of the show is to bring together music from each of these artistes in a concert featuring some well loved songs, played by a good ’live’ band.
