Influences
The Calmes Triplets extend their appreciation and admiration to choreographers, teachers and musicians that have given them inspiration and guidance over the last six years. In particular, Yousry and Nourhan Sharif (www.egyptianacademy.com) have given countless hours of their time to mentor them with their consummate knowledge and ability to teach...Also, Jamila and Suhaila Salimpour...Faten Salama…Karim Nagi…Shawkat…Saphira…Elysa...A very special thanks goes to Rachel Brookmire (www.saharadance.com), who as their first instructor shared with them her beautiful and graceful approach to dance; and of course, they shouldn’t forget the lovely Belly Twins who inspired them to search for a belly dance class in the first place!***
Their father, a true jazz aficionado, fostered their love for many greats such as Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Dave Brubeck and countless others. He also paved the way for their love of classical music, exposing them to composers and musicians such as Berlioz, Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, JS Bach, Ravel and Yo-Yo Ma. Their relationship through the years with family friends, and specifically The Ruby’s (Elsie, flutist and vocalist; her son Jay Ruby, a performance artist and founder of The Carpet Bag Brigade; and Greg Ruby, a gypsy jazz guitarist performing with Hot Club Sandwich and formerly of Pearl Django), led to many creative performances and musical opportunities.***
Their love for all cultures, and specifically influences from China to Japan, India to Bali and the European flavors of Italy, France and Spain, have surfaced in their art, studies in language and music, and most recently in dance.***

While having the inexplicable luck of sharing their mother’s belly, the 3 gals known as The Calmes Trio / Triplets have chosen to remain intertwined on the adventurous, never-boring journey of life. Since the word “separation” is not in their vocabulary, they continue to be closer than ever, refining their skills as classical musicians, and bellydancers—paying homage to the Old Hollywood glamour of classical Egyptian dancers while cherishing its folkloric roots.
First encounters inevitably create questions…are they sisters? (you look alike)…are they twins? (are you twins?)…triplets? (you look different!)…Yes, they ARE triplets! (your poor mother!) Hailing from the South and descendants of strong French and Sicilian heritage, these are true Renaissance dames. Throughout their lives, art history, languages, classical music, and dance have indelibly colored their world…and of course, once you get to know them you will see their genuine love for people and alluring cultures! Playful, flirty, vampy…unforgettable…and oh so many illustrative adjectives describe the sisterhood…
…Please sit back…relax…ENJOY the charismatic, energetic, illuminating, earthy, show—a personal invitation into the world of The Calmes Triplets…..........Every heart is the other heart...Every soul is the other soul...Every face is the other face...The individual is the one illusion.
