About me: What is The Canine Collective? We are a network of seasoned rescue professionals who have come together to offer care and support for homeless dogs in central Ohio. Dogs in our program are examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, started on preventative medications and temperament tested. We want to make the dogs next home is its final home, so we screen all applicants to ensure a good match between the dog and its new family.
We are a mixed breed rescue, meaning we save the lives of any dog regardless of its pedigree. Some of our volunteers have knowledge and experience with particular breeds, while others prefer the All American mutt. Any dog regardless of its pedigree can find itself homeless, therefore we help all dogs.
Where is The Canine Collective located? – Most of the dogs in our program are in foster homes throughout Columbus and the surrounding areas. We also have some that are housed at a boarding kennel until a foster home becomes available or they find their new home.
Where do The Canine Collective dogs come from? – Since our group is made up of seasoned rescue professionals, most of the dogs in our program are referred to us by area shelters and humane societies in which we have great working relationships. They refer dogs to us that are scheduled to be put to sleep due to shelter overcrowding, hold time limits, or because they are scared of the shelter environment. Often times we have more time and resources to work with the dogs to get them adopted into loving homes.
We would like to thank all of you who came out and had fun with us. We would also like to give a special thank you to Missi from Bark Til Dark Dog Park for allowing us to hold our event at her park.

Who I'd like to meet:
TINY LITTLE MIDGE - by Lesley Lester
A fluffy puppy so easily discarded
Short on her legs and very kind hearted
A Mercer County rescue we couldn't say no to
Our little Midge gave us hope to hang onto
She made us laugh, she made us smile
Her sweet puppy breath we'll never forget
Our little Midget girl we sorely miss.
We would also like to give our heartfelt thank you to Dr. Bando and the staff at the VCA Sawmill Animal Hospital for all their above and beyond efforts to try to save her young life.
We have established a Fund to pay for emergency vet care for the dogs and puppies in our program.
thanks, hun, it was fun-glad you 3 were there. too. Let me know dates and times on zoo and pupalooza - and others=
I got some 8 x 10 lab and jack russell framed photos free-no more towels....
We picked up our first foster today and got a couple of pics of him already. He immediately attached himself to my wife Star and seems to be quite relaxed and comfy in his new surroundings.
They are both curled up in bed behind me while I type this.
I know he was being called Tribbly, but Lesley said he hadn't really learned his name and we could change it if we liked. So after looking at him with his slightly off center jaw I immediately thought of Eddie Money and the way he sings out of the side of his mouth so we are calling him Eddie. My wife also thinks he resembles Eddie the Jack Russel from the show Frasure. So I think it is fitting.
Anyway, enjoy the pics and we will keep you posted!
OK, that makes sense now! I thought maybe he was moonlighting as a personal trainer! Ha! Ha! Is there a pic of Fritz on the web site? I will check him out and show him to Wynter. Any takers on some cats yet? I have several who are in need of vet care and we just don't have the funds to do it. We found homes for 7 of the downtown strays...there are still several out there wandering around.
That's great about Sagira! Thanks for letting me know....but, are you sure you are talking about my husband?!? Perhaps you meant to send that part to somebody else! :) lol! Anyway, I am not sure what we are doing at this point. I would love to re-open, but I am seeing some positive changes in our son now that we are not so occupied with the biz. May just wait until he is a bit older and then see what happens. One of your new volunteers stopped in the coffee shop. I talked to her about doing some things here when Spring returns. There is a nice sized lot right behind the shop that Wynter is hoping to turn into a patio. If this happens we will be able to do some events here. I will keep you up to date on anything we do. Hope all is well.....
LOL! She is so stinking cute! The hot dog pic cracked me up, but not nearly as much as the bee one! We are plugging away with our sale...slowly but surely!
I am just nervous because I am a perfectionist.....I want everything to be PURRFECT! It's funny you just messaged because I just got off the phone with someone interested in photos and the costs! I am so excited...I think the turnout is going to be amazing!
I just about died when they said she was adopted out twice and returned twice - needless to say she keeps close tabs on both Jeff and myself...Too bad I can't just tell her she is stuck with me!
