http://www.insurgentcountry.net/Mark%20Merryman%20and%20the%20Canyon%20Rats%20-%20Scenic%20Byways.htm | | Influences | Just to name a few:
Benny Galloway, Tim O'Brien, David Grisman, Bill Monroe, Jerry Garcia, Django Reinhardt, Tony Rice, Anders Osborne, Mark Knopfler, John Prine, Johnny Cash, Bruce Cockburn, Lyle Lovett, Walter Hyatt, John Hiatt, David Grier, Guy Clark | | Sounds Like | Mark presents his original songs with the help of a few friends, combining traditional musical techniques that include hints of bluegrass, blues, swing, folk, and gypsy jazz that he calls “Eclectic Desert Cowboy Music.” It really has nothing to do with cows, the cowboy represents the adventuresome aspect of the west. Lyrical tales of mental, spiritual and even psychotic adventure are laced with a dry, subtle humor that skirts the mundane. Hot licks and solid rhythm: sustain the groove is their motto. The New Canyon Rats’ current core is made up of Mark Mortensen on Gypsy Jazz guitar, Sandy Reay on bass and vocals, Mark Merryman on guitar and vocals. Performances frequently include Mr. Wade Krauss on percussion and vocals, Jeff Ingram on sax and flute. The group performs with a variety of guest players, depending on the mood of the day.
Performance usually consist of one set of folk/bluegrass/country and one or two sets of swing/blues/jazzy. | | Record Label | Unknown Indie | | Type of Label | Indie |
