BIOGRAPHY:
Rarely does a simple acoustic project turn into something as ambitious as Oneonta, New York’s THE CAST BEFORE THE BREAK. Main songwriter TJ Foster started the group as an outlet to explore new facets of his music, but with the addition of guitarists Jeremy Carter and Jordan Stewart, bassist John Cannon and drummer/producer Ben Hemingway, a much more developed sound emerged. The tracks on the band’s debut, As Your Shoulders Turn On You, showcase the group’s ability to craft wildly creative, experimental music while at the same time maintaining pop sensibilities. After digging past the obvious comparisons to post-hardcore bands like Thursday and Dredg, a more grandiose sound begins to emerge. The elaborate instrumentation and vocal layering reminiscent of bands like Forgive Durden and The Receiving End of Sirens. The warmth and intimacy seen in artists like Elliott Smith and Dallas Green. The introspective lyrics and sheer force of bands like Death Cab for Cutie and The Spill Canvas.
And how we dance! And how we sing!
With each member pulling from their own unique influences, it’s no surprise how diverse the music sounds. However it remains focused. “I think overall, the main inspiration for us was just writing cohesive songs that were each as powerful as the next, while also containing surprises around every corner,” says vocalist/guitarist TJ Foster. With each member focused on their education, the band’s priority was to present their work and passion to the world in the form of their album, As Your Shoulders Turn On You. Foster sums up the band’s attitude towards music saying, “We poured our hearts and souls into this record… If you can’t afford our CD, burn it from a friend. Music deserves to be heard. And this record, as powerful as we’ve attempted to make it, needs to be shared with the world. We love our fans, and there’s nothing we wouldn’t try and do for them.”
This is far too heavy for a childish thing.
The release itself focuses on the story of a man lying in a coma, barely alive, the seconds counting down until his demise. But digging deeper, one sees a commentary on society and human nature. “…the record is really a statement about society in general. We’re all guilty of something, and I think that’s what this album is pointing out.” The tracks are powerful, taking the listener for an emotional and musical ride that is at times jarring and tough to comprehend on first listen.
What have we all become? What’s lost is found.
With their recent signing to Red Dragon Records and plans to tour in the future, THE CAST BEFORE THE BREAK is truly a unique band, the type that only comes along every few years; a band to keep your eyes on.
Yeah, the script's nearly finished, it'll be finished and finalized by July 20th the latest.
I started writing the script back in February, and have talked to a couple people, made a few calls, and am now Producing/Directing it. I'm also playing the lead role of Holt, the main character, because I wrote the character based off of what I know, and although I'd love for someone else to play him, I prefer I play him, since I know exactly how I want the character to be.
the film is called "Suspicion", here's the synopsis:
Holt's a teenager that loves to party, and he knows how. The summer's approaching rapidly and he's looking to throw a HUGE party before the summer begins, but he takes it to far. Holt's family is off for Hawaii and decides it'd be a suitable punishment if he were grounded to stay home, but with his Uncle Joe. One night Holt discovers that his Uncle may be the serial killer who the news has been talking about for the passing days. Now he will stop at nothing at uncovering the truth at whether he's under the same roof as a Serial Killer.
Hey guys, I wanted to know if you would like to get involved in a film at all, what's going on is I want a special song for the movie, kinda how in "Disturbia" This World Fair wrote the song "Don't Make Me Wait", just for the film. You guys are great, and you're kinda the style music that's going to be on the soundtrack, I was wondering if you guys wanted to write a special song for the movie based on the original musical score, much like they did in Disturbia (which is my favorite film). Let me know. We probably wouldn't be doing anything with Music until September or October, but I though I'd ask now.
Hey guys, don't forget, I'm up for filming a gig, or music video. Long as it's before August, cause I'm booked. I met one of you guys today at Saturday Matinee. Anyway gimme a shout out and I'll be sure to try and make it out to a show and film. btw, I like ur stuff
hey i met u guys at bamboozle twice! i love ur music and the drums parts lookd like a lot of fun..i was watchin them very closly! is 14 yrs old too young to b the drummer!?????
Hi! I believe one of you left a comment in my journal here: http://patentpending.livejournal.com/33229.html Thanks! I think you guys are pretty brilliant. Hopefully you make it out to TX at some point. I'd love to see you guys.
supppppppppppppppper bummed im not going to make the jerz show next week. it will be the first show ive missed since september :-( lets cry a river together.
so. i tried to reply but my messages arent working. anyway. i would to mainstage as its like 10 min away. but i have dance from 830-930 and its my last class before my recital. which suckss. id rather be dancing to you than my dance song. its strange. its called bandy bandy. and its like indian hiphop/jazz
I know you're playing at mainstage, which I conveniently live extremely close to (walking distance ftw). But unfortunately my total lack of funding prevents me from seeing you.
But, I hope you have the greatest show possible. And perhaps, by some freakishly lucky chance, I will be there singing.
There's pretty much 3 decent venues around: The Theatre of the Living Arts, The Trocadero and the North Star Bar. The TLA is this reallyy cool venue on South Street and has all sorts of cool stuff around. The Troc is in the middle of Chinatown and it's also really awesome. I've never been to the North Star Bar.. but I've heard good things. :)
