ABOUT THE CAT EMPIRE

The Cat Empire has already stretched across Australia, taking over that hotbed of house-rockin’ bands one enormous theatre at a time. And now that their chart-topping smash Two Shoes has gone double-platinum in Australia they’ve set their sites on other territories, conquering late night TV in the USA – with performances on Letterman, Leno, Craig Ferguson– and packing out theatres right across Europe, as well as headlining major festivals in every corner of the world.

But is the world ready for six guys who apparently never sleep, who play nearly every night of the week, often drawing up to 30 performers onto the stage to feed from their limitless energy? Can we fully appreciate a group whose sound is a joyful collision of reggae, pub-rock, hip-hop, acid jazz, ska, R&B, and whatever else is in the air that evening, all of it packed into tight songs that threaten at any moment to explode into dazzling jams?

Well, actually … yes, if we judge by the reactions they have been getting all over the world recent trips. Brian Mansfield of USA Today reported on their Bonnaroo performance that the “Aussie visitors performed with the pacing of an old-school R&B revue.” And Jeff Tamarkin, writing for AMG, confirmed that “the fuss was justified: The Cat Empire is a wholly engaging, genre-splicing band … clever and brainy, danceable and absorbing.”

How do they pull it off? From the first moments on stage the groove is ferocious, the brass is sassy. The trumpet and keyboard feel like they’re blasting in your living room; Felix’s vocal is, well, sly, but it also swoops and falls and hyper-ventilates and pretty much leads you right into Harry’s next song, whose island flavor and sing-along hook make it clear that this is a ride to remember.

Fact is, they are far more complex than they sound, if you want to break what they do down to the basics. But tempting as that is, the best way to appreciate The Cat Empire is to do what fans have been doing all over the world, from the band’s eyebrow-raising set years ago at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival up to the ARIA Award that the national recording industry bestowed on The Cat Empire last October.

In other words, crank it up. Make it loud. Let it rip. Save the analysis for later. Dance! Read more

We are very proud to announce that our new album SO MANY NIGHTS will be in all good record stores all around Australia tomorrow, Saturday 22 Sept. It is the culmination of the last few years of touring, and is a record we are proud of. There are definitely some new sounds, but still plenty of the old stuff you all expect us to deliver too. Most of the songs were written on the road and developed in the studio with our great Producer John Porter.

Those people who are in Melbourne can come to the Prince of Wales at midnight tonight to join us for a launch party, and to be the first in the WORLD to get your hands on the album. Jumps will DJ into the early hours of the morning. It’s free entry, so head on down at midnight.

Sydney – we are about to CRUSH the Metro record. Our 8th show will go on sale later today. That’s the record breaker! April, 28, 2008- So Many Nights Released in the US!-

We are very proud to announce the US release of our latest record, So Many Nights, which has just been released in the USA.
The album has already gone platinum in Australia. We recorded it in Malibu, CA and in Melbourne after our USA tour last fall, and we really think the album marks a high point for the band, both in terms of performance and songwriting.
So Many Nights refers to the songs. They're little vignettes from our travels, stories that got etched out in the back of a tour bus over the years. We were keen to step beyond our regular party thing and were all ready to make something crafted, more musically solid. There are still some solid party moments though, so old-school fans won't be disappointed!
Check out the new Empire Mediaplayer to preview songs and video clips for "So Many Nights" and "No Longer There".
You can also embed the player in your Facebook or MySpace page to spread the word – click on "Get Your Own" and copy the code. You can also order it through ..iTunes or on Amazon.com. We'll be following up soon with tour info, ringtones and contests. Thanks for your support!

June 15, 2007- NPR World Cafe live session with The Cat Empire

Fans can find their local station by going to the World Cafe Website or by streaming the broadcast online between 2pm and 4pm Eastern at the WXPN/Philadelphia station!

May 4, 2007 - Exclusive Live Videos from The Independent in San Francisco

THE CAT EMPIRE NEWS (Europe & other)

July 15, 2008 Hey Canada! Gear up for Summer with The Cat Empire!

In case you haven’t heard by now, The Cat Empire is back with their latest CD, So Many Nights, and is available now in stores across Canada!

Like always, the band is smokin' beyond belief. But this year, well, let’s just say the party has crossed the line between mystery and light. And back. A few times.

"So Many Nights refers to the songs," says bandleader Felix Riebl. "They’re little vignettes from our travels, stories that got etched out in the back of a tour bus over the years. You get to a point, living like that, where it really gets hard to distinguish between what's happening and what's a dream."

And so the strange, colourful trip unfurls from the airborne whimsy of "Panama" to the mystifying, swirling thrill of '"The Darkness". It's all melancholy ache in "Lonely Moon", funky as hell in "So Long" and "Strong Coffee", then freaky like a spaghetti western acid trip in "Voodoo Cowboy."

Want to hear more?

Now is your chance to test your knowledge of The Cat Empire and win a TCE Prize Pack, including a copy of So Many Nights.

To enter, send an email to contest@indicarecords.com with your answer to the following question:

What is the first song written by all six members of The Cat Empire?

To qualify, all emails must be received by 11:59pm on July 31, 2008. Be sure to include your name, address and telephone number.* Enter today!

Be sure to also visit www.thecatempire.com for fun facts, updates, offers and more on The Cat Empire. Who knows? You might even find the answer you’re looking for!

Wishing everyone a safe and happy summer!

*All correct answers will be put into a draw, and the winner selected and notified on August 4, 2008. The odds of winning are dependent on the number of correct submissions received. Limit one entry per person.

July 30, 2007 The Cat Empire to tour Europe again in November 2007.
A full list of dates to be announced soon. But the tour will include the following countries: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belguim, Holland, Italy and the UK (2 shows at the Shepherds Bush Empire already on sale).

July 20, 2007 Two Shoes the album, now available throughout Europe and Asia on Universal Records.
That’s right, finally you can buy Two Shoes locally, in record stores and digital outlets all over Europe and Asia. Check this out www.universalmusiconline.com/thecatempire/twoshoes/

Ahoy there! Check out our new EP The Inland Sea here - You can also listen and buy at www.theinlandsea.co.uk Enjoy xxx
“A call to arms from the perilous waters of the Island. Kinfolk cower in their homes as wild squalls rage fury on us. A far cry from the glassy seas and towering swells from which we profited only a few days ago. Respite cruelly prized from our grasp, our hopes of reprieve in calmer seas lie tattered, at least for now. Scathed but not scarred, we persist through relentless gales and cloudbursts on the fringes of the ocean, passing the church in the bay where many a reveler and mourner has been left stranded at high tide. Through fortune and fortitude we reach the shore and are greeted by warm fires, zestful ales and hearty tales shared with our good friend, (sadly soon to depart us). For the storm has abated and the bow has settled. We wipe our blinkered eyes, ravaged and weary; the majestic scenes enveloped by the Island in a blind rage, ever imprinted in our minds”...
The Inland Sea is inspired by the isle of Anglesey, a place that has always been close to The Mekkits’ hearts... It was recorded and produced at "Studio Los Mekkitos"... in Manchester, and will be followed next year with the ecclectic debut album!

forever
rich

i wake up in the morning and i say my prayers, step into my slippers and
walk, down the stairs, and there’s no food, no milk for tea, and the rains
coming, through the roof on me, and the weather man’s preaching that we’re
gonna die, and wondering how the hell that i’m gonna survive, cause i can’t eat
my songs and i can’t drink my rhymes, and my guitar skills won’t pay the rent
on time but, hey, its gonna be a great day, hey, its gonna be ok, cause the
world can repossess everything i own, but they can’t take my heart
and they can’t take my soul, home is where the heart is and my heart is in the
music, and i’ll sing it all night and i’m never gonna loose it, when i’m doing
it poor and i’m in a ditch, i’m gonna sing it out loud and i’ll forever be
rich, forever be rich, y-e-a-h.

What a way to end a tour! Fantastic show in NYC last night. Can't wait until your summer tour (one way to get through winter). At least this time I won't have to wait 3 years to see you again. Great to see you again. Enjoy your time off
