The Ceramic Hobs were formed in 1985 by Simon and Steve and first split up in 1988. This site will only feature the music of the 1986-88 incarnation. The band is experiencing a strange 47-year afterlife - with Simon Harris and pStan Batcow as the core of the best-known 'ghost' band to date from 1993 until 2008. At present the current incarnation (Simon, RooH, Laurence, Ging, Kate, Ric, Ben and Keiron) is recording a series of eleven new albums entitled OZ OZ ALICE, all to be released between spring 2009 and autumn 2014. I have to report the incredibly sad news that Fes Parker died on the morning of 4th February 2009 from complications after cancer surgery. We send condolences to his friends & family.
Fes will live long in the memories of those he touched with his curious and strange art. Most of all, I will miss Fes in the flesh, equal parts broad smile, hazy satisfaction and cynical quip. After years thrown around by the brutalities of life, Fes swam for islands of calm assisted mainly by howling feedback and one of the huskiest rock voices the country has ever known, bemusing and enthralling people along the way in almost equal measure! A man of impeccable, considered taste and a master raconteur, Fes was an excellent friend for the last thirteen years or so. Rest well, Grasshopper.
Phil Smith, 14th February 2009 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fes Parker was Blackpool's greatest songwriter, as acknowledged by the people who knew, who included local heroes and long-term Fes allies Section 25, Goldblade, The Fits and the Ceramic Hobs, as well as legendary BBC Radio Lancs new music programme "On the Wire". Section 25 and the Hobs recorded a number of his songs. He was arguably Blackpool's first real punk, recording on-the-edge music from the sixties onwards and embracing the punk years with joy and abandon. He recorded regularly with able assistant Speedy Dave, as well as the Goldblade brethren. He released two pro CDs and a stack of tapes and CDRs. You can find details of his last (very recent) CD "Side Room" at the url below. He loved gigging, but sadly only got to do so rarely in recent times, due to ill health.
