About me:
A few people have sent emails wondering about "my" tender young age as displayed to the left. The age reflects how old the club would be, had it not closed (i.e. it opened in 1980).

Blog entries are quotes originally posted to The New England Music Scrapbook.

There is now an official homepage for The Channel. Be sure to check out Boston's Best Live Rock for officially licensed Channel gear, discussion forums, and news about exciting, upcoming (yes, upcoming) Channel-related events!

Who I'd like to meet:
Former staff, regulars, and any bands who played the club.

If you have any photos of/from the club that you'd like added to the pictures page, send them to

Please limit comments to text or small images only. Flashing/animated images will be deleted. They waste bandwidth...and...well..look silly.

I miss you Channel!!! What a club, great stage, the Parachute room, my best memory... The Tubes show, can't remember what year maybe the late 80's, My brother and I managed to get by two seperate security guys to end up in the band room in the back left corner, we partied with the Tubes after their show. Worst memory... waiting in the line for the mens room while the bouncer stood guard trying to keep guys from pissing in the sinks hahaa!!

Hey, just had another wonderful flashback - remember coming outside at 2am and that guy was always right in the parking lot selling sausage & pepper subs - man, those really hit the spot (well, those or going to IHOP in Brighton for pancakes!). I think I might know what we're having for supper tonight...

Mar 16 2007 2:07 PM

geez, I saw a million shows at the Channel and always thought it was the best club in Boston. I moved away for a while and when I came back, the club was gone. What a loss! My best memory - Spinal Tap!!! Biggest disappointment - Metallica not playing and having to sit through a double set of WASP screaming and throwing pork chops into the audience (thank God for that little enclosed bar area!). And the million shows between the two - the Ramones, the Plasmatics, Eddie Kendrick & David Ruffin, Huey Lewis, Greg Kihn, Tommy James and every local band playing at the time (the Stompers at least 20 times). Thanks for the add, the memories brought a smile to my face.

Anyone have pictures and /or specs of the old P.A. system? Rumor has it that the entire system was grounded to a old shopping cart thrown in the channel.

Jan 16 2007 6:02 AM

Thanks for the add! There isn't enough good things to say about The Channel. The BEST place to see a band or play if you were in a band. I basically grew up there from 1983 watching bands all the way until the end of 91, when my band Rat Alley was scheduled to play with Motorhead before they closed. A sad sad day!

Jan 4 2007 2:13 PM

My last day at work at the Channel turned out to be the Corrosion of Conformity show. After what happened at the Naughty BY Nature show they didn't think it was a safe place for me seeing that I was about to have a baby. This was my job...my income on and off for the past 4 1/2 years. When I made the call on December 30th to my friend and boss Mike Smith to tell him I had my son...he gave me the worst news I could imagine. I was not only unemployed but the doors were closed...possibly for good. How strange the most wonderful day in my life was suddenly the one of the worst in the Boston Music Scene. What a great group we had there to work with. 15 years later I still miss all of you.
