Christopher Lander Moore: writes the songs, sings the words, plays a lot of the guitar, and frequently plays other instruments on the home recordings. Other duties include driving the van, organizing practices, making and selling the CDs, smoking the cigarettes, drinking the beers, and saying "Yes" to pretty much whatever show is offered to the band.
Other people get involved a whole lot.
Emily Durkin: plays the violin, and the mandolin, sings sometimes, makes dry jokes, and graduates from college. Jesse DeCaire: plays the acoustic and electric guitars, sings harmonies, avoids cameras, and lays down the fury. Anna Eby: plays the Glockenspiel, maintains the marching-band discipline, and sings or yells as need dictates. Rudy Forsberg: plays the drums, answers the cell-phone, somtimes plays the guitar, also sings and yells, totally crushes people at arm-wrestling. Daniel Beckman: plays the 12-string guitar, does the sweet onstage dance-moves, catches both real and digital fish, and generally looks adorable.
Influences
Being alive has had a pretty profound effect on my life.
The Chanteymen is a musical ensemble based out of Marquette Michigan in the isolated, frequently chilly Upper Peninsula. It is the words and chords of Christopher Lander Moore, interpreted through a collection of close friends. The music started as recordings made on a laptop, and was initially shared with close friends who were usually far away. The name is a reference and homage to the songs of sailors. It is pronounced with a hard "ch", like "chicken" or "children". (You'd put this in your bio too if your own mother kept saying "the Shhhhanteymen".) The sounds have been described as "folk", "folk-punk", "alt-folk", "nu-folk", "folk?", "pop", and "rock", and compared to artists such as Andrew Bird, Sigur Ros, The Mountain Goats, Leonard Cohen, and The Misfits. I don't know how anyone gets the Misfits outta this, that's just what they tell me. You're encouraged to draw your own conclusions.
To date, we have released an album and an EP, both on Grand Rapids MI's "SELF-SATISFIED" label.
Future plans include more music, more shows, and eventually starting some kind of cult.

Comes With The Fall kinda blows, and I'm not too keen on them thinking they can move on without Layne, but I have to concede that Jerry DID write a lot of the stuff, and sing a lot of the stuff, so I GUESS it's okay. And the new song sounds PRETTY OKAY, but I've still got my arms crossed, Chris. I'm still grumpy.
I wasn't sure what you'd think about that. I honestly love that EP, and some of the moments on your album move me in the same way. I was worried that would sound sarcastic or something, but the truth is: I'm old. I actually grew up with and enjoyed the music of Alice In Chains, unironically.
I tried using an online "sparkle generator" on the banner graphic to surprise you, but either I couldn't figure it out, or it was bullshit. I look forward to seeing the real thing.
Not sure if you saw your item pages on the Self-Satisfied website:
Yes, indeed. He is a cousin of mine who contacted me a few months back, which is when we became aware of each other.
I'd tell you to check out my top two friends-which are my bands- but one has hardly any songs up and my respect for you is too much to think I could give commands.
All you need is a pack of lucky strikes, a six pack of PBR, some sandpaper, the belt of a fourteen year old girl, a box of dollar store brand earl gray tea.
