Progressive bluegrass songwriter Chris Cairns and his band, The Chris Cairns Band have been impressing California audiences and rewriting the book on the "bluegrass" sound. Rooted firmly in the traditional bluegrass of Flatt and Scruggs, The Stanley Brothers and Bill Monroe the band's repetoire draws from these classic sources for fan favorites such as Carter Stanley's classic "Baby Girl," Bill Monroe's haunting ballad "Walk Softly," and Earl Scruggs' banjo tour-de-force "Dear Old Dixie." Band leader Chris Cairns has come into his own recently as a songwriter with soon to be classic's such as the bluegrass gospel "Let Me In" and the high and lonesome "Runaway Train." Instrumentally the band draws new lines with Chris's originals like "Tumbleweed Blues." Vocally, Chris is at his best when singing the poinent lyrics of his solo piece "Then I Know We'll Be Alright." From Pete Seeger to Pete Townsend, this band's influences create a dreamlike blend of old and new. Tight bluegrass solos from Tom Corbett and Mike Mullins weave driving melodies around the group's three part harmonies. This music is for fans of traditional bluegrass, modern bluegrass, folk and traditional country music.
Chris Cairns was born on Long Island just outside of New York City in 1974. He began playing guitar and banjo at 8 years of age and has been performing since age 10. Chris started his first bluegrass band, The Yankee Bluegrass Boys, in 1988 in New York and his second, Wild Sage, in 1998 in Santa Barbara, CA. His credits include performing at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2000, the Strawberry Music Festival in 2001 and on live TV in the Statue of Liberty Celebrations Closing Ceremony in Giant's Stadium at the tender age of 11. As a songwriter, music teacher and record producer, Chris makes his home in Santa Barbara, CA.
The Chris Cairns Band consists of Chris on banjo, Mike Mullins on guitar, Tom Lee on string bass, Tom Corbett on mandolin. The group has been performing to huge success throughout California. Set to take on the 2007 season with the release of their new album "Hello Blue," The Chris Cairns Band will be one to watch!
HeY! Just thought I'd stop by to say hello! Whenever you get a chance, come by & show me some love too! I hope you have a great week & an even better weekend! ( ;
HEY CHRIS!! Wish I could make the show..... I am Tour managing Sean and Sara from Nickel Creek til the 19th..... Keep me posted on your shows though... How the hell are you my friend!? Long time no see!!!!!
I was thinking of setting up a website for bands to sell their music and put it up top in the search engines. I wanted to ask all of the bands on my friends list what they thought.
Then as each band refered their frieds to the site to download their music, the other bands might gain some exposure in the process, Like a big network of friends that love music.
I cannot get Your Love is a Runaway Train out of my freakin' head!!! I love the song! But how many days can it keep playing in there??!! Where is the off button?!
