In a time when monotony and routine seem to dominate the mainstream music scene, many listeners struggle to find a unique sound that comes as a breath of fresh air. Luckily, with his music project, The Cidermill Drive, 22-year-old musician Mark Bonaventura boldly and fittingly answers the call for individuality.
The distinctive sound of The Cidermill Drive comes from the fact that Mark performs every single instrument found on each track himself. Something that began as necessity, this unique trait has become an identity to his music, and continues to be so with the release of his new EP, “On Our Own.”
While preserving a unique musical sound and style, the music of “On Our Own” undoubtedly reflects the inspiration Mark has found in the artists who have influenced him, which range from the likes of The Beatles to Gram Parsons to Tom Waits. This broad assortment of influence is heard in the highly distinct sounds of The Cidermill Drive. Mark says that he strives to absorb a variety of music genres, allowing him to create fun music that makes each song different from the next, all while creating “a familiar sound that people can associate with The Cidermill Drive.”
“On Our Own” is the first EP that Mark has written as a whole from start to finish. It will continue to appeal to music lovers with its creative mixture of rock/pop, blended harmoniously with shades of country and soul. The lyrics and music are largely upbeat and memorable, while the writing is rooted in heart and soul. Each song offers its own original style, and at the same time, contributes to an innovative, unified sound that is unmistakably The Cidermill Drive.
